I’m thinking things are not well in Concepcion, Chile.
Hopefully since its 75 miles from the epicenter.....there will be some moderation.

Chile has had some of the worst quakes and devastation ever known.
In May 1960, they had a 9.5 quake -- the largest ever recorded. Then they had a tusnami, then they flooded ,then they had mudslides and finally they had a volcanic eruption. The whole thing was known as the Valdivia event.
And in spite of all of that, they only lost about 6,000 people in Chile in 1960.
Global seismic release from 1906 to 2005, the graph shows that almost 25% of the energy was concentrated in the Great Chilean Earthquake (1960) alone.

That’s one monster of a quake! Was half asleep when son called to tell me. Gonna do some checkin’ on those tsunami warnings.
To: Bokababe
Can you imagine if this was a foreshock for a really big one?

55 km down is hopefully deep enough to also moderate the effects at the surface some. The Haiti quake was much shallower IIRC.

It is a foreshock to a really big one. It’s just a matter of when.

Google Earth shows small towns within about 2 miles of the epicenter. Large cities are within about 20 miles.
This is going to be bad.
How awful.

Don’t we have some Freeper Friends in Samoa as well? Maybe a ping or two couldn’t hurt. I don’t recall their screennames right away.
