House Minority Leader John Boehner on Wednesday asked President Obama to give Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) a last-minute invitation to Thursdays health care summit.
In a letter, Boehner noted that the Stupak amendment, which bans federal funding for abortions, is not included in the presidents reform proposal or the Senate version of the health care bill.
Yet CNN and Quinnipiac University surveys consistently indicate that the Stupak amendment reflects the will of the American people, he wrote. Including Representative Stupak would send a signal that the White House respects the views of a majority of Americans and a bipartisan majority of the House on the critical issue of life.
The White House has told Republicans they can invite another lawmaker to the summit since the administration invited Sen. Ron Wyden, a White House official said. As for Boehner's request for Stupak, the official said, "If they want Stupak to come, they can bring him."

I don’t share your reservations, but I do see your point. Mainly, I don’t think there is any way on God’s green earth that President Obambi can *credibly* soften on abortion that doesn’t throw him into a Lefty buzzsaw. And he especially cannot allow himself to be seen softening on abortion on TeeVee with a bunch of Republicans in the room.
I also think that if Stupak can be brought around, he can be brought around, whether in that room or not. I think it will be *harder* for him to fold while on national television instead of in a back room. But if he’s going to stand, he’ll stand anywhere.
I like Boehner’s work here. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.
Translation: I know full well that tomorrow's health care summit is a stupid political theater trick and I'm not sure I want to go on tv and be forced into saying publicly that the President is a tool.
Also, he didn't know about the letter beforehand? That doesn't ring true to me. But I could see someone remembering things that way after a little talkie with Rahm.
But if he was going to fold, he’d do it anyway, whether he went to the summit or not. Likewise, if he’s going to stand, he’ll stand anywhere.
I think this is brilliant, on a number of levels.
AND he knows very well what happened to his dear friend and colleague, Senator Nelson.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

I just pray the Republicans know what they are dealing with and can hold their own tomorrow.
O. M. G. Are you kidding me? No teleprompter? Egads, that’s great (except it will be very embarrassing for our country).
P.S. Didn’t Obambi use a Dick Tracey watch with a teleprompter in it during the campaign? And at other times he had an earpiece with people feeding him lines?
I’m series.
I mean, watch for the signs tomorrow.
Yes, but for whom? MUUUUUAAAAAAHHHHH
So they will “remove” the abortion provision, what will Repubs do then? The Dems will only put it back in, and it is not the only thing wrong. You cannot win with crooks and frauds.
Bet the narcissist in chief didn't like that rebuff
“There is no way the media will report this thing accurately regarding the Republicans.”
I take it you mean the dying water carrying RAT press, and not the new media and conservative media.
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
“Bottom line: If Stupak can get comforted by some revisions to the abortion language, then his oppostion to BOcare is obliterated.”
And then they lose 100 LIBiots on the left side of the House? Aren’t they in the same place they’ve been for a year?
I agree.
Based on their performance since 1995 I'm inclined to think they are immensely dumber than we can even imagine.
So this gonad-less clutch will be herded in front of their master to seek his absolution with the usual result.
Sort of like the meeting they invited obamao to...They'll come out with their tails between their legs beating their chests proclaiming victory.
Once again we will have to accept a silk purse made from a sow's ear.
The problem with this is that abortion while ultimately important is about #6 on the list of problems with this bill.
Actually I believe it is number one. If they keep abortion funding out of the bill, that is a coup! A big win! Nobody should be paying for abortions that a lot of people find immoral. I for one am thrilled that it seems to be that funding for abortions won’t be in the bill and I thank whoever is fighting it and that includes that Democrat.
Good points all. I thought about your last point also...could be fun to see what gaffes MAO-bama makes...to add to his 57 states and CORPSEmen laughers.
Imagine they character assassinated Quayle's and Palin’s intelligence for much, much less.
Idiot. Boehner says that inviting Stupak would show that Obama really cares about Bipartisanship. And so Obama invites him.
Now, how does Boehner claim the meeting was a setup, when he just set a rediculously low bar for Obama to “prove” his intentions are good?
Boehner SHOULD have said that it was REDICULOUS that Pelosi refused to invite Stupak, and that if Obama was going to invite Wyden he owed it to Stupak to invite him.
That way Obama would have just been doing the minimum required, instead of “proving his seriousness”.
Boehner could lose a curling match with a 7-0 lead in the 10th run.
“Im series.”
That’s hugh.
“So they will remove the abortion provision, what will Repubs do then? The Dems will only put it back in, and it is not the only thing wrong. You cannot win with crooks and frauds.”
“...what will the Repubs do then?”
Pound ‘em into the dust...........a guy can dream, can’t he?
