~Favorite Walking Song~

Marc Cohn - Walking In Memphis
> Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy -- won't you look down over me
Yeah, I got a first class ticket
But I'm as blue as a boy can be

Then i'm walking in Memphis
Was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room

When I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
Boy you got a prayer in Memphis

Now Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
She said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight"

Walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain

Nat King Cole -Walkin' My Baby Back Home >

Gee it's great after being out late,
Walking my baby back home.
Arm and arm over meadow and farm,

Walking my baby back home.

We go along harmonizing a song,
Or I'm reciting a poem.
Owls go by and they give me the eye,
Walking my baby back home.

We stop for a while, she gives me a smile,
And snuggles her head on my chest.
We started to pet, and that's when I get

Her talcum all over my vest.

After I kind of straighten my tie,
She has to borrow my comb.
One kiss then I continue again,
Walking my baby back home.

she's afraid of the dark
So I had to park outside of her door till its light
she's says if I try to kiss her shell cry

Ill dry her tears all through the night

Hand in Hand to a barbeque stand
Right from her doorway we roam
Its and then its a pleasure again
Walking my baby, Talking my baby
Loving my baby, I don't mean maybe
Walking my baby back home

Walk Like An Egyptian - Bangles

All the old paintings on the tombs
They do the sand dance, dont you know
If they move too quick (oh whey oh)

They're falling down like a domino.

All the bazaar men by the Nile
They got their money on a bet
Gold crocodiles (oh whey oh)
They snap their teeth on your cigarette.

Foreign types with the hookah pipes say:
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian.

The blonde waitresses take their trays
They spin around and they cross the floor
They've got the moves (oh whey oh)
They drop your drink, then they bring you more.

All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (oh whey oh)
They're walking like an Egyptian.

All the kids in the market place say:
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian.

Slide your feet up the street, bend your back
Shift your arm, then you pull it back
Life is hard, you know (oh whey oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac.

If you want to find all the cops
They're hanging out in the donut shop
They sing and dance (oh whey oh)
Spin the clubs, cruise down the block.

All the Japanese with their yen
The party boys call the Kremlin
And the Chinese know (oh whey oh)
They walk the line like Egyptian.

All the cops in the donut shop say:
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian.

We had rain until about 3pm or so ... so I hopped on my bike then. It sprinkled a bit after that, but by then I was in and dry.

On a completely unrelated note, there was a raccoon on my front porch tonight!!!! We've lived here 7 years and this was our first raccoon sighting. Heck, I haven't even heard of raccoons around here!

Day went well for a Wednesday....my busiest day. We finish any corrections to checks, and then print paychecks for paying on Fridays. Tomorrow we check to see if all our corrections took, but without the frantic time crunch. On Wednesdays, we print as close to 2pm as we can...corrections done or not.

Today, right after we printed, the system went down. Whew!! It was funny (only since we were done) as we got sevreral calls from other departments wondering whether or not we finished. This Friday’s checks are for us office and intown folks. LOL!

Are you gonna have another storm? We have had temps in the high 30s for more than a week. Nights are just starting to drop below freezing again. Very weird weather.

"Silhouettes" was produced by Bob Crewe, who was just starting out as a record producer. Five years later, he hit the jackpot with a bunch of guys from Joisey -- the Four Seasons.

I had a chat with Joe Labriscia from the Four Seasons in 1971 about Crewe. I had heard that his contribution to producing was to walk in to a recording session, listen for 30 seconds, make a suggestion and then walk out. Joe agreed, but he said that Crewe's suggestion was always the right one, so nobody complained.

Crewe had the same gift as the legendary Bertha Porter of WPOP in Hartford. She could listen to 15 seconds of a record and tell you if it would be a hit and to whom the song would appeal. I confirmed that story with Joey Reynolds, who worked with her in the early Sixties, in a phone conversation in 2002.

She knew Bob Crewe, and they were apparently savants of popular music.

No critters, but, boy, almost an accident right in front of me. The streets are mostly dry, but you cannot dry under the assumption that they are all dry. Guy turning in front of me got a little close to the curb and hit a patch of ice. S L I D E sideways !! Rush hour traffic would have been an accident, but I don’t leave the office til some of the traffic has cleared out.
