~Favorite Walking Song~

Marc Cohn - Walking In Memphis
> Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
W.C. Handy -- won't you look down over me
Yeah, I got a first class ticket
But I'm as blue as a boy can be

Then i'm walking in Memphis
Was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room

When I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

They've got catfish on the table
They've got gospel in the air
And Reverend Green be glad to see you
When you haven't got a prayer
Boy you got a prayer in Memphis

Now Muriel plays piano
Every Friday at the Hollywood
And they brought me down to see her
And they asked me if I would --
Do a little number
And I sang with all my might
She said --
"Tell me are you a Christian child?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight"

Walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet 10 feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel

Put on my blue suede shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain
Touched down in the land of the Delta Blues
In the middle of the pouring rain

Nat King Cole -Walkin' My Baby Back Home >

Gee it's great after being out late,
Walking my baby back home.
Arm and arm over meadow and farm,

Walking my baby back home.

We go along harmonizing a song,
Or I'm reciting a poem.
Owls go by and they give me the eye,
Walking my baby back home.

We stop for a while, she gives me a smile,
And snuggles her head on my chest.
We started to pet, and that's when I get

Her talcum all over my vest.

After I kind of straighten my tie,
She has to borrow my comb.
One kiss then I continue again,
Walking my baby back home.

she's afraid of the dark
So I had to park outside of her door till its light
she's says if I try to kiss her shell cry

Ill dry her tears all through the night

Hand in Hand to a barbeque stand
Right from her doorway we roam
Its and then its a pleasure again
Walking my baby, Talking my baby
Loving my baby, I don't mean maybe
Walking my baby back home

Walk Like An Egyptian - Bangles

All the old paintings on the tombs
They do the sand dance, dont you know
If they move too quick (oh whey oh)

They're falling down like a domino.

All the bazaar men by the Nile
They got their money on a bet
Gold crocodiles (oh whey oh)
They snap their teeth on your cigarette.

Foreign types with the hookah pipes say:
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian.

The blonde waitresses take their trays
They spin around and they cross the floor
They've got the moves (oh whey oh)
They drop your drink, then they bring you more.

All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (oh whey oh)
They're walking like an Egyptian.

All the kids in the market place say:
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian.

Slide your feet up the street, bend your back
Shift your arm, then you pull it back
Life is hard, you know (oh whey oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac.

If you want to find all the cops
They're hanging out in the donut shop
They sing and dance (oh whey oh)
Spin the clubs, cruise down the block.

All the Japanese with their yen
The party boys call the Kremlin
And the Chinese know (oh whey oh)
They walk the line like Egyptian.

All the cops in the donut shop say:
Ay oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian.

That was SMOKIN’! Thanks for sharing that. I like JC’s version of “Personal Jesus” by DePeche Mode. Their original recording sounds like they’re mocking Jesus. Johnny Cash sounds like he means it, that he can save your soul if you’ll just reach out and touch faith. Drastically different takes, and both great recordings of the same song.

LOL! It was the only one I could think of in my “arsenal”
that had to do with walking!

I think MY is on my ping list....I more or less just randomly
picked songs with “walk” in them, but Phil Bailey’s is a
favorite.

Go get that coffee quick! (you’re so funny, gal!)

Now, THAT song I know. But usually hear the short version.
That line is in the long version. My bad.

You'll Never Walk Alone was a hit for Judy Garland in the late spring of 1946. Frank Sinatra had an even bigger hit with the tune the previous year.

You found that Gershwin number! Bless you!! It’s one of the best little segments from “Shall We Dance”.
