A lingering technical question about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks still haunts some, and it has political implications: How did 200,000 tons of steel disintegrate and drop in 11 seconds? A thousand architects and engineers want to know, and are calling on Congress to order a new investigation into the destruction of the Twin Towers and Building 7 at the World Trade Center.

Bermuda with the Ughers?
I did read the whole article. And I still don’t know why the Washington Times is running this unadulterated Truther nonsense.
What did I miss?
The most common theory among the nutbars is that they are in some detention facility in a western state like Nevada. Seriously screwy stuff. I wonder how much money dope dealers make from the Truthers.
The Harry Reid detention facility at area 51?
Hey, maybe they are on Reid’s campaign staff! Free labour! It isn’t as though they can file a complaint. ;-)
That would be a heck of a party atmosphere.
Ping for later checking. A troll is a troll is a troll.
However, lets all be aware that from a broader engineering perspective, there is always something valuable to be learned from a failure....even horrific ones such as the collapse of the Towers where it already is clearly understood by any reasonable person as to why they fell. It should be mandatory that every engineer entering the workforce read To Engineer is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design by Henry Petroski. It is not until there is a precise understanding of the exact nature of the 'why' that steps can be taken in the future to make something better. I have no insight into what has all gone on with the post-9/11 studies in this case but I will bet that much failure analysis has already happened with the Trade Towers. What will it yield? Perhaps a requirement for more steel columns? Perhaps an upgraded standard for steel beams that retain higher yield strengths at higher temperatures? A change in the standards and materials used for column insulation? Recommendations for alarm systems that will inform occupants to get away from a side of the building and toward exists on the other side if a plane gets within say a few minutes of potential impact? Recommendations for different methods for extinguishing flames? All are possibilities plus many more.... not just for the objective of having a building withstand a crash but for it to remain standing longer. Think about it..... if the Twin Towers had of been able to stand for double the length of time they did, how many additional lives would have been saved?
There is much to be learned. However, none of it will come from the agenda of nuts like Richard Gage.
Hmmm. Perhaps some fact checking is still in order (yeah, perhaps I’m a bit too perseverative on being accurate)?
The 1993 World Trade Center bombing occurred on February 26, 1993
I can imagine how “energized” the campaign staff is. (if they aren’t asleep)
I do believe you are right.
I am convinced that Reid is a reanimated corpse.
I hit abuse within a few minutes of this article being posted. For whatever reasons, the mods have chosen to allow it to remain. I would choose otherwise. *sigh*
The American Istitute of Architects is the professional organization that represents architects. I am not only a member, but a past chapter president. The AIA has about 85,000 members nationally (although I can't seem to find an exact number). My guess is that the other 84,000 understand gravity and metallurgy a little better than the 1,000 loons they got to sign up.
Ditto for the architects
That the article claimed there were 1000 architects and engineers that wanted another ( or more thorough) examination attracted my notice.
There are always a few nuts in any organization. I know there are in my professional association.
ewwwww
Look at him. Frankenstein was more animated. ;-)
