Glenn Beck Rips Republicans in CPAC Show-Stopper
Politics Daily ^ | 2/20/10 | Patricia Murphy

Glenn Beck, the Fox News personality and chalkboard scrawling libertarian hero, gave the marquee speech Saturday night at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Swapping out a teleprompter for his famous chalkboard, Glenn Beck wowed the faithful with an hour-long presentation that defended conservatism, praised the Founding Fathers and lampooned Washington, D.C. as an addict in need of immediate treatment. He looked to history to predict that without an immediate course correction and reduction of the federal budget deficit, America is headed for "an economic holocaust." Beck began by praising Ronald Reagan, whose famous campaign ad "Morning in America" envisioned America's best days as still being ahead of it. "It is still morning in America," Beck said. "It just happens to be kind of a head-pounding, hung-over, vomiting for four hours kind of morning in America. And it's shaping up to be kind of a nasty day, but it is still morning in America."

Beck blamed Washington politicians for the country's poor condition, and accused both parties of growing the size of government, spending beyond the country's means, tolerating corruption, and embracing an array of liberal policy prescriptions that he equated with a cancer in American society.

Republicans, he said, are just as guilty as Democrats. "It's not enough just to not suck as much as the other side," he said. "The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. I have not heard people in the Republican Party admit they have a problem and when I did hear them say they have a problem, I don't know if I believed them."

The Republicans' problem, he said, is the same as Democrats' problem-- an addiction to spending, a willingness to place the judgment of the government ahead of the rights of individuals,

I like Beck, but he’s basically crazy.

To the contrary, I think his attraction for millions of people is that he is basically sane.

He exposes crazy as crazy by getting upset over it, because he's fighting the programming that has led people to calmly accept crazy lying illegal destructive bullshit from their leaders. So he points out that the bullshit is crazy, and he gets upset about it, and then he says - "see how I'm upset and not calm, because this is crazy? That's called sanity. It's sane to get upset over crazy bullshit. It is not sane to accept it calmly."

He's teaching outrage sanity to a calmly insane population.

I’d like you to watch the video of his CPAC speech and let me know item by item what you disagree with. Okay? Thanks.

I feel sorry for the 15-20 percent of Republican politicians look bad because of the majority. For instance, how many Republican Senators/Congressmen voted against:

The American with Disabilities Act, Civil Rights bill of 1991, prescription drug plan, bailouts, setting up the department of homeland security and the TSA?

I’m listening to his speech now. I’m very impressed with Beck because unlike a lot of the radio hacks he really does work hard to present the case for conservatism. So many Republicans and politicos aren’t really principled they are issues wonks. That is why they can call someone a moderate when the person would be considered a socialist if measured by the weight of their ideas.

Some Republicans are good, many Republicans aren't bad, some Republicans and all Democrats are bad.

That is the accurate assessment of the mess that we have in Washington.

"The first step to recovery is admitting" who "sucks" and who doesn't suck. It's not good enough to say that they all suck. I don't think I heard Beck accurately identifying the problem.

Glenn is a master showman and great at exposing the commies in the current admin but he's also a BOR style populist.[Both parties do it...the Republicans are just as bad.] Don't be surprised when Beck backs a turd party candidate handing Obama a second term.

I watched part of the speech and thought I tuned into a Tony Robbins infomercial

My main beef with the Beckster is how loosely he throws around the phrase “Republicans are JUST AS BAD as the Democrats.”

As bad as they are (and I’m an Independent), they’re the only thing standing between our current state of misery and TOTAL FASCISM.

Beck was fantastic. I would like to see the naysayers who are dissing him give such an impassioned, interesting, accurate and rousing speech. Kudos to Glenn!

He just carries on like that for entertainment value. It's a device for keeping people with short attention spans interested long enough so they can learn something about who and what we have in the White House today.

I like Beck for exposing the history of the left especially in our own country. He’s got the courage to say a lot of stuff no one else will.

Courage is in short supply.

I propose we get rid of the “aren’t bad” and the “bad”. We have a lot of people in this great country of ours that can represent the people excellently and very good. The good can stay for now and compete for their jobs next election.

We the people are raising the bar back to what it should be. Mediocrity is not good enough. The current state of the USA testifies against both the Reps & Dems. They can ignore the facts at their own peril.

The "naysayers" are passionately and accurately telling you there was a specific problem with the speech.

You should consider it.

Them mormons be funny stuff. Not their fault; just Joe Smith’s fault. Beck’s foundation is undermined by the cult.

Aw, so sorry he’s bashing Republicans and that offends the party loyalists here.

The GOP earns every bit of derision directed at it. It is possible to believe neither party is worthy of our support. It is possible to even support a party while still making them grovel for that support.

They haven’t learned their lesson yet. They’ll benefit this year for the American people’s resistance to D.C.’s current actions. This is true.

They won’t keep that power if they operate the way they did the last time they had the majority. The GOP is bein duly warned right now. We don’t believe you. You’ll be judged by your actions not by your rhetoric.
