At times, I wonder what will fracture the FR base. I think it is the social conservatives versus the fiscal/government conservative canyon that will lead to our own Civil War. I was pointed to FR by a libertarian friend, yet I see social conservatism taking over this site. I’ll judge what I want to judge, but I don’t think that government has any business telling people what to do in their personal lives, so long as they are consenting and of age. It’s up to my own opinion at that point to decide who I want to associate with, and who I will introduce to my family.

You're just propagating a false talking point that social conservatives want to legislate what homos do in their bedroom.

There is no fracture on FR. None of us want to be bludgeoned with the homosexual agenda. We don't want our children indoctrinated in schools that this is an acceptable lifestyle. We also don't want the definition of traditional marriage changed.

By the way FR has been a very strong social conservative site along with other types of conservatives. The owner of the site just don't want to turn the site into a gay agenda forum.

I used to feel as you do, that the Gov. has no business telling consenting adults what to do and no business telling me who to associate with. That was until.....

Numerous citizens had their votes thrown out and had gay marriage forced upon us by the Gov and/or activist judges. When the voters of close to 20 states all vote down Gay Marriage and yet it’s forced upon us by the Gov, that is tyranny.

We learn our children are being taught about homosexuality in school and much worse (see Kevin Jennings, Safe School Czar) - then we learn some areas of the country are prohibiting parents from opting their children out of pro-gay classes. Our children are not consenting adults and I’ll be damned if I’m going to allow the Gov. to decide what and how I will teach them about gays.

We learn that those who believe in traditional marriage have had to defend themselves in court to protect their names and addresses from being put on the Internet with groups calling for retaliation against them. Others have been attacked, death threats made to their families, their businesses protested etc. All for excerpting their constitutional rights to disagree with the homosexual agenda and petitioning the government for redress of grievances.

I can go on and on but I think the point is pretty clear.

We are way passed the point of live and let live. Now we have our Gov forcing onto all of us a lifestyle we may or may not agree with. That is intolerable.

While many people would be willing to have a live and let live attitude; that opinion quickly changes when they find out they have no right to live the same way. That is where we find ourselves today and why so many Americans and Conservatives are so against the gay agenda.

So you don't mind, by allowing homosexual "spouses" into the health insurance pool, being forced to pay for their abuse of medical technology to effect their further abomination of nature - procreating themselves by manufacturing sperm from female stem cells, for example?

You're ok with that?

Hmm ~ what to do, what to do ~ the government just confiscated my bedroom to sell on the open market to pay for the $250,000 health care penalty they say I owe for missing a single monthly health insurance payment.

Guess that'll buy a ton of AIDS drugs or something.

So much for the sanctity of the bedroom eh.

Did I just see Senator Baucus sniff my mattress or what? Why that ol' perv.

>I see social conservatism taking over this site<

I don’t see it as “taking over.” In the words of the owner, as stated in post 211, “Free Republic is a pro-God, pro-family, pro-Liberty conservative site! We are 100% opposed to liberalism, socialism, wacko environmentalism and militant homosexualism. If you don’t like it you can take a hike or get banned for trolling!”

>I think it is the social conservatives versus the fiscal/government conservative canyon that will lead to our own Civil War.<

As for argued elsewhere, outside of anarchy, you will not have small government ruling over an immoral people. Those who are not sufficiently controlled from within, by God and a sound conscience, must sooner or later be controlled from without, necessitating the growth of civil government. Robert Winthrop (May 12, 1809 – November 16, 1894), and Speaker of the House from 1838 to 1840, and later president of the Massachusetts Bible Society, explained that, “Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled, either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or the bayonet.”

As for finances itself, see some of what this wonderful social revolution is costing in dollars: http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org/RevealingStatistics.html#15

I once though the same way-—stay private - don’t ask don’t tell. The comprosmise did not work. Don’t ask don’t tell is now gone.

Problem is that homosexual activists don’t want to stay private. They want to practice and behave publicly their sordidness with all that entails..get it?

It won’t be up to you unless this agenda is opposed, that is the whole point! The govt will force those choices on you and you family.

Nothing ticks me off more than when liberals shout down conservative speakers. While I find Mr. Sorba’s comments rather immature and inflammatory, he should be heard. Booing him was certainly unbecoming of someone that respects the First Amendment.

That being said, social issues are divisive within the conservative movement even in the best of times. To bring them up now is like trying to nationalize one-sixth of the economy when everyone else is concerned about jobs, jobs, jobs.
