Something wrong in Democratic Party

"This is a warning sign on so many levels, when people like Evan Bayh walk way rather than serve their country," said Steve McMahon, a former Senate staffer for the late Democratic Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts. "The moderate Democrat is a vanishing breed," said McMahon, a Democratic strategist on Capitol Hill. "It is the moderates that make the difference between being in the majority and being in the minority, a problem for the Democrats."

Former Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Rick Santorum said Bayh did what he himself should have done when faced with a similar situation in the 2006 mid-term election. Santorum lost by 18 points to Democrat Bob Casey Jr. in an election year that cost Republicans the majority in the House and Senate.

Santorum commended Bayh for having a clearer head than he did: "He looked at the conditions practically and knew that running would prove to be toxic."

True, he’s a lib ... but NOT a “progressive” ... I’m thinking there is a big difference. But you know, Joe Wilson (YOU LIE) voted for TARP. So none of the records are “stellar”. He’s a Democrat, and he will have voted for some of the Dem crap ... HOWEVER ... he is walking away. And I’m betting that Health Care is one reason ... he got sucked in and is disgusted with himself. We’ll probably never know. Just interesting to think about.

Interestingly, I went out for dinner the other night with a friend who is a major lib. I hadn’t seen him in probably six or seven years, and he was in town.

Now, I have studiously avoided politics with him, because he isn’t someone I like to see riled up...he is a soft spoken, polite gentleman, but politics changes him.

During dinner, politics came immediately to the front, and it was kind of humorous and incongruously alarming to hear him talking about “armed revolution” to take the country back!

My thought was “Take the country back? Heck, he voted for this guy in charge!” and then he talked about why can’t our legislators just compromise and get along...

It is true, to liberals, compromise means “surrender your principles and do it my way”.

To conservatives, they understand that “compromise” in certain situations is the rough equivalent of liberals saying “I’m only going to put it in a little bit...”

Out of 100 Senators the democrats select the absolute furthest one to the left who is an rabid ideologue and then wonder why there isn’t centrist consensus...well, if you had a centrist government maybe there’d be a chance for that...but as it is, the democrats have created an unworkable concoction.

“a good guy and from the wing of the Democratic Party from the mold of JFK.”

That is remarkable this day and time.

It is. Well at least inside DC, it is why I like and trust his honest assesment of things.
