The Demo cannot appoint a new senator. Evan Bayh is finishing out his term and then a new senator will take his place after the regular midterm election in November.
I know that. I was replying to a poster wondering if Repubs should help a little known candidate that is running for the Indiana Senate seat and was still looking for signatures (which are due tomorrow). If the dem's don't have anyone running in their primary then they can select a dem candidate by the end of June to run on the general election ballot in Nov.

As usual, Obama made it about him, the president. That democrat president with the balanced budget had a republican lead congress. I'm sure that didn't go escape by Bayh.

While it would be hilarious and would help out the GOP immensely by saving them money on this race, on the other hand letting the Dem state party select a candidate allows us to possibly destroy a ‘name’ in a good year, staining one of their best candidates.
Still though, I’d rather do the sure thing and crush the unknown. Why waste time on Indiana in a year when we can put the screws to Chuck Schemer or Barbara Boxer?

Looks like we need to get a copy of the “Indiana Election Code”. Many paragraph just refer to the paragraph, etc of the code book. Repeated comments that the manuel doesn’t take the place of a lawyer.
ANY INDIANA LAWYERS ON FR?

Can one of the republicans running switch parties and run in the dem primary, lol?

I think you’re right and Obama’s answer wasn’t the one Bayh wanted to hear.

“And with Republican Todd Rokita in Charge, you can bet that hes not going to allow Massachusetts type political shenanigans by the Dems”
The change that allowed Kirk to be selected was the result of the legislature overriding a veto from Romney, so there's not much that a secretary of state could do to impact things. Interestingly enough, had the legislature not done anything, Kirk would now be senator until 2012 based on his appointment from the sitting governor (deval Patrick) at the time the vacancy opened up.

That, my FRiend, would be a blowtorch, not a spark to disaster!I'm highly interested in your theory regarding that statement if you would care to elaborate.

Dan Coats did the same thing in 1998. So did Paul Trible in 1988. Some would rather retire than fight.
To: MitchellC
Good points. I think it is likely too late for that candidate to get her signatures by tomorrow. So, the dem’s will probably get their say on who they want on the ballot for the Nov election anyway.

Most of us blockheads in the north could see Obama was a train wreck, but we were edged out by the hopey-changey types around Indy.
I *wish* we only had 15 percent unemployment. At times it’s been so bad even the Amish factory workers went on umemployment.

LOL. I don't think so, but that would be funny if they could.
