Does anyone really care?

I don't. The Olympics has been ruined by corporate contamination and misplaced nationalism....not to mention athletes messing with their genetic makeup and risking their health just to win a crappy medal.

Vancouver has a lot of the same dynamics as San Francisco.
Protesters living on the dole are available for any kind of obstructive behavior.

Georgian luger seriously injured in luge crash

He passed away :

Joint Statement from IOC, VANOC and FIL Feb 12, 2010
It is with great regret that we confirm the death of the Georgian luge athlete, Nodar Kumaritashvili, during the final training session at the Whistler Sliding Centre, this morning.
Mr Kumaritashvili died after crashing on the last corner of the course during training. Doctors were unable to revive the athlete, who died in hospital.
“Our first thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of the athlete. The whole Olympic Family is struck by this tragedy, which clearly casts a shadow over these Games”, said the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Jacques Rogge.
“We are deeply struck by this tragedy and join the IOC in extending our condolences to the family, friends and teammates of this athlete, who came to Vancouver to follow his Olympic dream”, said John Furlong, the CEO of VANOC, the Games Organising Committee.
For the International Luge Federation, President Josef Fendt said: “This is a terrible accident. This is the gravest thing that can happen in sport, and our thoughts and those of the ‘luge family’, are naturally with those touched by this event.”
An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the accident. Training was suspended and technical officials are now trying to establish the causes.

Clearly these Lugers (sp?) are fearless. But the next guy to go down the course has to have pair of brass ones.

If there was no snow on the ground in all 50 states, the AGW con artists would be having a field day talking about there being no snow in the Olympic venue due to...climate change.

I just watched the video on Live Leak. I can’t conceive of a world class luge track built with concrete columns lining it 3 feet away from the track.

I was in Vancouver on business until yesterday. Two nights ago I was in a coffee shop. Two Americans (by accent) came in, young man and woman, and stood next to me. They had obviously just met and were planning an evening's activity: a date. He said "let's see Avatar". She said, "I don't like the class warfare thing." He said "You're probably a Young Republican ... but that's OK." So they agreed on dinner.

It is hard for the few young conservative women in the dating market. Men mock them. He didn't seem like he had strong political opinions, but it was a easy shot at her confidence. It is tempting for a young woman to sacrifice her principles, political views, whatever, in order to be popular with men, and he knew it.

Living in Canada, where conservative women do not exist, I may not be aware that this goes on regularly in the U.S.

This young lady was trying to having a good time on a precious holiday and was getting flack for it.

How can I watch the Olympics live and unfiltered online? NBC is being a real pain again in making it extremely difficult to actually see things live online!

I just watched it there, too. The young man didn’t move at all after the hit. Glad he didn’t suffer. It did look like he was going really fast. The track looked like the sides were too shallow. Prayers up for his family.

Did you see the video of this? = UGLY

No.

Luge must be shut down after tragedy
http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug=dw-lugedeath021210&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

VANCOUVER – With the crash that killed Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili during a Friday morning training run, just hours before the Olympic torch was to be lit here, the Vancouver Games need to take immediate steps to assure the safety of its athletes.

It can start by canceling the luge competition altogether unless the track can be reconstructed to prevent wicked speeds from putting athletes at risk.

...

“I think they are pushing it a little too much,” Australia’s Hannah Campbell-Pegg told the Associated Press on Thursday after she nearly lost control in training. “To what extent are we just little lemmings that they just throw down a track and we’re crash-test dummies? I mean, this is our lives.”

Campbell-Pegg’s words should haunt these Games.
