Members of the Senate Finance Committee unveiled a long-awaited bipartisan jobs bill Thursday morning – only to have it scrapped within hours by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Reid killed the bill after hearing complaints from members of his own caucus who argued that Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) had gone too far beyond the core goal of job creation in order to win over Republican support.
It was a major rebuke for Baucus, who’d spent weeks working with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking Republican on his committee, trying to come up with a bill that Republicans would support.

I don’t care much for Grassley (Rino), can’t stand libturd Baucus for masquerading as a “moderate” demoRAT who is a rank socialist demoRAT in Washington DC, I literally hate Harry Reid (and 0bozo & Nanzi Pelosi). But in all honesty I don’t who or which of the demoRATs get screwed or thrown under any bus, as long the ultimate result is to kill EVERY SINGLE SPENDING bill that the demoRATs are trying to slam down our throats. I want the demoRATs & 0bozo (and his phatass angry bitch-wife) to fail at everything they attempt to do or even think about doing.
Look, guys, Reid rejected it because they have attached the label “Jobs Bill” to this piece of crap he wants to write. The GOP needs to jump out in front and start calling this bill Porkulus 2, Pork, the Sequel or something if they want to be able to vote against it. The Dems know that no politician wants to vote against a “Jobs” bill in an election year when we have record unemployment. The GOP may have to go along with whatever crap they put out to avoid giving their Dem opponents a free soundbite for the November elections.
The GOP needs to start crafting something that truly is a cheaper jobs bill than the Dems (that should be easy) that is simple and easy to understand. The extension of unemployment benefits should probably be in there. It sucks but the only way they can vote against the Dem bill is by convincing the American public in about 10 words why the bill is bad.
Good. I thought it was a lousy bill. About 90% for the Dems and 10% for the Republicans. Which evidently isn’t enough for Dingy Harry.
In addition to all the reasons you mentioned about the good that comes from Harry Reid’s reflexive rejection of this jobs bill, I also thought that Reid’s summary rejection of the bill will also serve to make moderate democrats want to want to support future Reid agenda items even less.
Reid is very foollsh (fortunately) to keep alienating members of even his own party! What a jerk!
Rush went through some of the contents of this bill. It had NOTHING to do with job creation. Why do dumb asses like Grassley allow themselves to be snookered like this??!! A stupid “bipartisanship” seeking republican signs onto a phony piece of tripe, all for the love of face time on CNN and sets up the whole damned party for a fall when the BS of the bill becomes known. Limp-wrists like Grassley must be thrown out.
There is little learning that occurs when one’s mind is clouded by hubris. And which Congressperson — especially Senators — is not full of hubris? There are a few, but rare!

I have always viewed Sen. Mitch McConnell as a kind of “milk-toast” politician. To me, in many instances, he’s a moderate’s moderate’s moderate. I and a growing number of others in McConnell’s home state of KY are aware of his lack of decisiveness and his “tired” politicking.
However, the problem is, although here in Kentucky, there are many, many, good people who are patriotic Americans, but there are many “sheeple” among them. The long tradition has been that once a majority of Kentuckians strike an allegiance with a politician, they tend to “stick with” that person “no matter what.”
Cases in point are Sen. Jim Bunning and Sen. Mitch McConnell. It doesn’t help either than in his former role as Senate Majority Leader and now Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell gets quite a bit of national press. Kentucky is a smaller state and doesn’t have a lot of clout other than McConnell’s clout, however meager that may be at times. This makes Kentuckians reticent to act to vote someone other than McConnell in.
Howver, somehow I am beginning to sense that the tide may be beginning to turn against McConnell’s re-election here in the Bluegrass state. The Tea Party’s influence is great in Tennessee and that is beginning to spill over into the more rural areas of KY.
We shall see...
THis is great news, and the best thing that could have happened out of this bipartisan attempt.
GOP gets credit for working with democrats, and Reid gets pegged again with ignoring months of effort just to placate his far-left base.
And the GOP can attack Obama for not controlling his own party.
And we don’t get a stupid “bipartisan” jobs bill.
I can never remember whether Grassley is a rat or a pube. And Baucus needs to be horsewhipped for what he did at Christmas. I don’t care how much pivoting and “walking it back” he’s doing now.
Reid just needs to be under the jail.
Dear GOP,
Let this experience remind you of a successful strategy that you might cosider trying: We win, they lose.
So far you have it backwards. And you opposition does’t’.
Just sayin’.
