Medina VS Beck (Challenging Glenn)
2/11/10

Posted on 02/11/2010 10:18:12 AM PST by eeevil conservative

Quick facts for full disclosure:

I have been a Beck fan since 2001, and an avid fan since 2004.

I have met Glenn at a book signing, I thanked him for changing my life. He is the reason that as a single mother of 3 (2 toddlers and a middle schooler), I went back to college. I made the President’s list, and he signed my certificate from the school for me. I cried, and he got up from behind his table and hugged me.

I have a great love and respect for him as a man, not just a talk show guy.

Now, onto his interview today with Debra Medina, candidate for Governor in Texas.

Glenn had received emails accusing Medina of being a 9/11 truther, so he decided to ask her about it.

Her answer was a complete and total bomb. She claimed that she thought good points had been made by truthers, but she had not looked into it enough to make up her mind, and she was focused on other issues.

I understand the question. I believe the question was legit, and I think most everyone listening expected her to just put those rumors to resist and deny being a truther in any way. She didn’t.

My first reaction was that she danced, didn’t answer directly, and so she lost my trust. Period.

The problem with Beck, for me, occurred after the interview. From all I have seen and heard from Glenn Beck, he understands the desperation and frustration of Americans with our elected servants far better than any other voice on TV or in radio. So I was shocked at the way he handled the Medina supporters who called in after the interview.

Glenn, these people are desperate. They understand that property taxes are a direct violation of any sense of individual property ownership. In my experience, I have found politicians and candidates who agree with me on this, yet none are willing to take a stand to fix it. Instead they offer excuses. Without owning personal property without paying the government for that “right”- it is not a right. All land is government owned and we pay them a fee to manage as long as property taxes exist. This issue alone makes me want to see Medina win because there is no freedom without the ability to own our own property. Are there other issues that could be a litmus test to nullify her for me? Of course, trust being one of them.

Dear Glenn, your frustration with the callers was a surprise to me. The callers were not truthers, they were people who supported Medina in spite of her position on the truther issue. You, Glenn, usually have such a greater insight into the bigger issue at hand than what you showed today on your show.

The American people are so desperate to get out from under the thumb of Federal and State Governments, that they are willing to excuse Medina on this issue. WOW! That says a LOT about the level of desperation and frustration of the people. Glenn, you are right that these people sound crazy for being willing to excuse Medina’s answer to your question. But the key word is “sound.” Yes, they “sound” crazy, but I believe you know that they are not. I understand their distress. They are just desperate and frustrated beyond what we would normally deem “normal.”

But we are not in normal times. You, yourself, daily remind us that we are in extraordinary times. I am not asking you to side with Medina or her supporters. I am asking you to see the bigger story or the bigger picture here. Glenn, the people of America are more awakened and more desperate than ever before. To see that Medina can maintain support despite her ridiculous answer to your questions is a huge red flag. Hearing the reaction from her supporters to your interview with her both saddens me, and scares me. What I am asking of you Glenn, is to not ridicule these people. I feel sorry for them Glenn. I feel sorry for them and for my country; sorry that America and her people are this desperate to return rights and power back into their own hands, as to seemingly abandon all reason in an effort to elect someone they believe will free them from the noose of tyranny.

A consumption tax to pay for services is the way to go- not the gov’t taxing personal property ownership....

It's one way to go. There are advantages and disadvantages. In Oregon, they have no sales tax and very high property tax. In Washington state, they have no property tax and very high sales tax. A lot of people live in Washington and work / shop in Oregon.

Personally, I would prefer a national sales tax to an income tax. However, I'm not going to push the issue, because I know that the Federal Government would not make it an either / or question.

She absolutely self-destructed when he asked her “The Question”. My mother and I were listening to her, and at first she sounded very good. We were both commenting on how good she sounded.
Then, when Glenn first broached the subject, she acted like it was a preposterous assertion.
Then, she backed herself into a corner and started to blather that she “hasn’t seen all the evidence”.
Well, who has?
She’s a loon, and deserves no further consideration by any rational person.

“I think she danced around it because she has truthers that support her, and she wanted to try and play it safe...”

Exactly. She’s not a Truther, but she did dance around it to play it safe. The result was a very bad answer and a missed opportunity. She also needs to learn how to do interviews - listening skills are the beginning of being a good guest. Talking over a nationally syndicated radio host is poor communication.

On the other hand, I’ll take weak interview skills over the certainty of being lied to and betrayed by establishment Rs like Perry and KBH. In any event, I think that in our media addled society, Medina lost her chance for a run-off as a result of the interview. KBH and Perry will run hard with it.

When all is said and done, we’re going to be stuck with “Good-Hair” again (if he can beat White). More spending, more taxes (fees), more money to the corrupt education establishment, more cronyism, weak border enforcement...in sum the same-old, same-old, but I think that the next Perry term will see the Texas economy heading down in a big way.

Of course, we can all hope that the tooth fairy performs a character transplant on Perry and the useless R majority in Austin. Or, perhaps, NJ will lend us Chris Christie to handle (only) the taxing and spending agenda in Austin (Now that man is someone who CAN communicate)

Medina Campaign Responds to Glenn Beck Interview
by Debra Medina on Feb 11, 2010

I was asked a question on the Glenn Beck show today regarding my thoughts on the so-called 9/11 truth movement. I have never been involved with the 9/11 truth movement, and there is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11. I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way. No one can deny that the events on 9/11 were a tragedy for all Americans and especially those families who lost loved ones.

The question surprised me because it’s not relevant to this race or the issues facing Texans. This campaign has always been about private property rights and state sovereignty. It is focused on the issues facing Texans. It is not a vehicle for the 9-11 truth movement or any other group.

The real underlying question here, though, is whether or not people have the right to question our government. I think the fact that people are even asking questions on this level gets to the incredible distrust career politicians have fostered by so clearly taking their direction from special interests instead of the people, whether it’s Rick Perry and his HPV mandate or Kay Hutchison and voting for the bank bailout. It is absolutely the right and duty of a free people to question their government. Texas does not need another politician who tells you what you want to hear, then violates your liberties and steals your property anyway. I fully expect to be questioned and to be held accountable as Governor, and that’s the underlying issue here: should people be questioning their government. And the answer is yes, they should be.

For starters look up Debra Medina's column 'Latinos and the GOP'

'It’s a shame isn’t it, that Republicans continue to ignore Hispanics especially here in Texas?' Debra Medina

'Ignore them', Mrs Medina? Since when? What more do you want? Or shouldn't we ask?

Medina ad:

“Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family?” (Medina’s cultural heritage is German and Bohemian.)

She told a colleague last month in an e-mail. “Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture.” But before she explained that, she told my colleage, who had asked her whether she considers herself Latina: “I’d not consider myself anything other than a wife and mother, a nurse and a patriot. I believe we too often get into race when it’s immaterial.”

No, Thanks, Mrs Medina.

She is also running Spanish ads. Hello Mrs.Medina! If they cannot speak English then they have no business voting IMO. When they learn English then let them vote. Assimilate. Learn English. Appreciate all America gives you.

So I’m sure she is blowing a lot of hot air just like Obama did just to get elected. Running those ads and saying what she has, tells me the border issue is just a try to get votes for herself.

Medina is about as qualified to be Governor as zero was to be President- want to re-visit how that is working out? She's a Libertarian running on the Republican ticket. She is supported by the Ron Paul worship crowd and she herself has acted in the Ron Paul worship capacity. She has demonstrated a lack of knowledge about Texas law and current ballot initiatives.

No, thanks, I’ll stick with ‘ol RINO Perry. Texas has remained in better shape than almost any if not all of the states in the union under Perry's watch. As someone said, 'he's the devil we know'.

The motly crew running for governor is laughable; a MUSLIM, a trecherous RINO woman* (Hutchison) and a woman with questionable loyalties

*Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress “One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchison’s amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.”

Those services should be based on the value/cost of those services, not an arbitrarily “appraised” value of your home.

Why does anyone have the right to ‘appraise’ the value of your home, unless you are trying to sell it to them?

Also, now that property values have fallen, are cities and counties going to ‘appraise’ your property downward?

No. First you must ‘petition’ the government entity to even iniate the process of re-appraisal. S

Secondly, none that I have heard of are planning to re-assess values based on new, lower ‘values’ of property. Many are, however, trying to circumvent that whole argument by raising tax RATES.

but most FREEPers are a bit knee-jerk in scope and not insightful by nature.

WOW. Then why are you here posting how a talk show guy changed your life and asking not to be flamed.

The flaming should come from the "not insightful people on FR".

While I agree with you regarding property taxes; I don’t believe Medina would have done anything about them or anything else that matters to the voter.

We need to find good leaders. People that will do the right thing.

I don’t think government had a hand in it. And, I think we could have done more to prevent it, but that is in hindsight.

But, some suggest truthers are such a small percentage...:

I have a FANTASTIC life now....but if you see me as pathetic, which is the tone of your posts, so be it...

I am very happy and very much successful in my life, and your little comments here say more about you than they do me. It must be great to have such a perfect and spotless past.

Too bad she didn't say that on the air. She might have saved her candidacy.

I think that interview was one of the more compelling exposes' I've ever heard.

From your logic, it would be OK to elect Medina, even if she thinks that the government might have orchestrated 9/11.

What if she also carried a blankie and sucked her thumb? Just because she regurgitates words that move and excite you, does not mean that she is electable.

“We need to look past thumb sucking to her core beliefs, that Bush killed 3000 Americans.”

She did not shoot herself in the foot, she blew her entire leg off.

All I'm saying is that it's a proper function of government to collect taxes and use them for the common good. How they get the tax, how much they collect, how much they spend, and what constitutes a common good are details which politicians can work out when they're running for office and / or governing.

If the abolition of property tax is a big issue, the results will be seen at the ballot box. If gakking a question on Beck is a big issue, it'll have ramifications as well.

Yes, but that one third lines up almost perfectly with the percentage of the population that identifies themselves as Lefties; we all know they are idiots. What is stunning about the Medina thing is that she's expressing pro-Truther leanings (or at least not denying them) while running in a Republican primary.

Someone should ask Glenn if he believes Obama is a natural born citizen. Because the Saudi has forced him to be silent about it. So, Glenn, how about that?

Glenn pretends to be so concerned for America, but it seems he is much more concerned for his $$.

You beat me to this....

The problem is not so much with Medina....the problem is with Beck. He has totally trashed those who want the Obama BC issue resolved conclusively and accurately....I am not sure it is due to Alwaleed and his terrorist money going to Fox News, or Beck’s buddying up to Bill O’Fraudley....but his total smiting of the Obama BC issue gives him no credibility in discussing other issues close to Conservative Americans.

Medina’s response to 9/11 Truthers is a lot less troubling than Beck’s refusal to honestly discuss the Obama BC....and also Beck’s 9/12 group....which borders on some liberal New Age philosophies

no— sorry— not at all...

I don’t think it is ok to elect a truther....to any position...

I have come to expect more from Beck, and expected him to notice that maybe the people are even more desperate than we thought, when you have normally reasonable people willing to elect one....

maybe I should have taken 3 hours to right, edit, re-write my thoughts before posting....I forget sometimes how hard it is to get the tone of writing delivered as opposed to speaking....

I have spent time as a radio talk host, and a lot of time here on FR— so I guess I just assumed folks here knew me well enough to understand what I was saying....
