Quick facts for full disclosure:
I have been a Beck fan since 2001, and an avid fan since 2004.
I have met Glenn at a book signing, I thanked him for changing my life. He is the reason that as a single mother of 3 (2 toddlers and a middle schooler), I went back to college. I made the Presidents list, and he signed my certificate from the school for me. I cried, and he got up from behind his table and hugged me.
I have a great love and respect for him as a man, not just a talk show guy.
Now, onto his interview today with Debra Medina, candidate for Governor in Texas.
Glenn had received emails accusing Medina of being a 9/11 truther, so he decided to ask her about it.
Her answer was a complete and total bomb. She claimed that she thought good points had been made by truthers, but she had not looked into it enough to make up her mind, and she was focused on other issues.
I understand the question. I believe the question was legit, and I think most everyone listening expected her to just put those rumors to resist and deny being a truther in any way. She didnt.
My first reaction was that she danced, didnt answer directly, and so she lost my trust. Period.
The problem with Beck, for me, occurred after the interview. From all I have seen and heard from Glenn Beck, he understands the desperation and frustration of Americans with our elected servants far better than any other voice on TV or in radio. So I was shocked at the way he handled the Medina supporters who called in after the interview.
Glenn, these people are desperate. They understand that property taxes are a direct violation of any sense of individual property ownership. In my experience, I have found politicians and candidates who agree with me on this, yet none are willing to take a stand to fix it. Instead they offer excuses. Without owning personal property without paying the government for that right- it is not a right. All land is government owned and we pay them a fee to manage as long as property taxes exist. This issue alone makes me want to see Medina win because there is no freedom without the ability to own our own property. Are there other issues that could be a litmus test to nullify her for me? Of course, trust being one of them.
Dear Glenn, your frustration with the callers was a surprise to me. The callers were not truthers, they were people who supported Medina in spite of her position on the truther issue. You, Glenn, usually have such a greater insight into the bigger issue at hand than what you showed today on your show.
The American people are so desperate to get out from under the thumb of Federal and State Governments, that they are willing to excuse Medina on this issue. WOW! That says a LOT about the level of desperation and frustration of the people. Glenn, you are right that these people sound crazy for being willing to excuse Medinas answer to your question. But the key word is sound. Yes, they sound crazy, but I believe you know that they are not. I understand their distress. They are just desperate and frustrated beyond what we would normally deem normal.
But we are not in normal times. You, yourself, daily remind us that we are in extraordinary times. I am not asking you to side with Medina or her supporters. I am asking you to see the bigger story or the bigger picture here. Glenn, the people of America are more awakened and more desperate than ever before. To see that Medina can maintain support despite her ridiculous answer to your questions is a huge red flag. Hearing the reaction from her supporters to your interview with her both saddens me, and scares me. What I am asking of you Glenn, is to not ridicule these people. I feel sorry for them Glenn. I feel sorry for them and for my country; sorry that America and her people are this desperate to return rights and power back into their own hands, as to seemingly abandon all reason in an effort to elect someone they believe will free them from the noose of tyranny.
go ahead— flame me.
I am no truther, but I sure understand that Americans are getting desperate for small government folks sitting in elected office.
I am happy you changed your life for the better and I am sad you attributed it to a radio/tv host.
anyone giving 1 second of consideration to the truther movement is a kook. Medina’s positions on anything else are out the window at this point. She just killed her campaign.
I didn’t hear Glenn after the interview because I had to get to work, but this is the Governor of TX we are voting on, and she has shown to be of poor judgment, regardless of positions on property taxes or anything else.
There are many issues that are relevant, but these people need to find a better candidate to represent them. Saying a “kook” is okay when she supports them on many issues is like saying “we can’t find anybody better”. Beck was right.
Wrong on soooooomany levels! If you believe that the government of the USA, headed at the timer by George W Bush was responsible for the attacks of 911 you are a nut! It doesn't matter what you think about guns, or property taxes or any otheer damn thing. You're unfit for office and should be disqualified in the mind of any sensible voter.
I don’t care about emotional pleas in your post to understand where people are coming from. Anyone that supports a Truther needs to have sense pounded down upon them. There is no acceptable reason for doing so.
I agree she is out the window....
I AGREE!
I think you missed my point—
I feel sorry for the people of this country that some are willing to excuse her on the truther (people who are NOT truthers), because we are so damn desperate for small government candidates....
Glenn pretends to be so concerned for America, but it seems he is much more concerned for his $$.

The bigger issue? What’s bigger than the federal government conspiring to kill 3,000 of its own citizens?
The current holder of the office is member of a party who accused Bush of knowing in advance of the attack and not doing anything to prevent it!
should be— YES!
should be—
doesn’t it concern you that people are so desperate that they aren’t dismissing her?
THAT concerns me!
Why not post this in General/Chat or something? It hardly qualifies as news or activism..
Flame you? Not worth the effort
My support goes to Glenn on this one. He stood by his principles. I don’t believe in relaxing my beliefs in order to support the lesser of the evils, no matter HOW dire the situation or disgusting the opposing candidate.
If Medina was pro-abortion, would you have expected Glenn to be understanding, excuse her position, or stand behind her supporters?
Glrnn Beck is not perfect, his statments about brithers shows me he is a moron. I stopped watching his TV show because his statments about the birthers was wrong and not based on the information that is out there.
Beck cares about Beck, he’s a phony.
the issue that people are willing to overlook a truther in office out of pure desperation....
I agree with your point about the American people, but there is one problem. You simply cannot trust crazy people. Period.
Like your screen name. I agree with your letter folks are just looking for someone/anyone that they feel and belive will return this Great Country back to the people. And I’m happy for you that you could get your life back together and it does not matter who or what they do just that in some way they helped when you needed it.
Semper Fi!
“Glenn pretends to be so concerned for America, but it seems he is much more concerned for his $$.”
Right, because the evidence that Obama is not a natural born citizen is so darn overwhelming that you’d have to be a mountebank to ignore it. Which makes all the conservative opinion-makers I can think of liars and money-grubbers.
