Quick facts for full disclosure:
I have been a Beck fan since 2001, and an avid fan since 2004.
I have met Glenn at a book signing, I thanked him for changing my life. He is the reason that as a single mother of 3 (2 toddlers and a middle schooler), I went back to college. I made the Presidents list, and he signed my certificate from the school for me. I cried, and he got up from behind his table and hugged me.
I have a great love and respect for him as a man, not just a talk show guy.
Now, onto his interview today with Debra Medina, candidate for Governor in Texas.
Glenn had received emails accusing Medina of being a 9/11 truther, so he decided to ask her about it.
Her answer was a complete and total bomb. She claimed that she thought good points had been made by truthers, but she had not looked into it enough to make up her mind, and she was focused on other issues.
I understand the question. I believe the question was legit, and I think most everyone listening expected her to just put those rumors to resist and deny being a truther in any way. She didnt.
My first reaction was that she danced, didnt answer directly, and so she lost my trust. Period.
The problem with Beck, for me, occurred after the interview. From all I have seen and heard from Glenn Beck, he understands the desperation and frustration of Americans with our elected servants far better than any other voice on TV or in radio. So I was shocked at the way he handled the Medina supporters who called in after the interview.
Glenn, these people are desperate. They understand that property taxes are a direct violation of any sense of individual property ownership. In my experience, I have found politicians and candidates who agree with me on this, yet none are willing to take a stand to fix it. Instead they offer excuses. Without owning personal property without paying the government for that right- it is not a right. All land is government owned and we pay them a fee to manage as long as property taxes exist. This issue alone makes me want to see Medina win because there is no freedom without the ability to own our own property. Are there other issues that could be a litmus test to nullify her for me? Of course, trust being one of them.
Dear Glenn, your frustration with the callers was a surprise to me. The callers were not truthers, they were people who supported Medina in spite of her position on the truther issue. You, Glenn, usually have such a greater insight into the bigger issue at hand than what you showed today on your show.
The American people are so desperate to get out from under the thumb of Federal and State Governments, that they are willing to excuse Medina on this issue. WOW! That says a LOT about the level of desperation and frustration of the people. Glenn, you are right that these people sound crazy for being willing to excuse Medinas answer to your question. But the key word is sound. Yes, they sound crazy, but I believe you know that they are not. I understand their distress. They are just desperate and frustrated beyond what we would normally deem normal.
But we are not in normal times. You, yourself, daily remind us that we are in extraordinary times. I am not asking you to side with Medina or her supporters. I am asking you to see the bigger story or the bigger picture here. Glenn, the people of America are more awakened and more desperate than ever before. To see that Medina can maintain support despite her ridiculous answer to your questions is a huge red flag. Hearing the reaction from her supporters to your interview with her both saddens me, and scares me. What I am asking of you Glenn, is to not ridicule these people. I feel sorry for them Glenn. I feel sorry for them and for my country; sorry that America and her people are this desperate to return rights and power back into their own hands, as to seemingly abandon all reason in an effort to elect someone they believe will free them from the noose of tyranny.
I don’t expect anyone to forgive Medina of her position....
NO ONE!
I am saying I feel sorry for our country when people so desperate for limited government are able to excuse her...
I agree...it’s a sad state of affairs that people are SOOOO desperate that they are NOT dismissing her. They should be dismissing her...and I think that’s the point Glenn is making.
Then again, I’d say the same thing about Hutchinson and Perry....equally as disgusting candidates, if you ask me. I wouldn’t vote for any of them. We MUST find and promote NON-PROGRESSIVE candidates.
yeah— I don’t trust her at all...
she was horrible at interviewing at all, let alone her truther debacle...
Thanks— at least you bothered to read the whole thing and get my point!
LOL!
thank you thank you thank you!
Amen!
Seems very much like those who voted for Obama because he wasn’t Bush.
Dangerous in the extreme.
Medina is unworthy of serious considertion as a candidate.
Not even fit to be dog catcher, IMHO
Excuse my ignorance on this subject, but what was the original “trutherism” charge against Medina?
Did she believe that GWB had a motive to kill 3000 Americans?
Thanks!
you should have heard the whole interview....
I wouldn’t let her babysit my pet fish...and I don’t have a pet fish...
I think Medina danced because she needs every vote she can get even from whacked out truthers. Dancing around one worthless issue does not dome her campaign. Property tax is a much much bigger issue than truther. In summary she really didn’t care about the 911 truther issue and it was not part of her effort past or present.
ya know— she didn’t say that at all...
She claimed to be a Republican grassroots activist for years in Southern Texas, so I don’t think she would believe that Bush was involved...but she just danced all over it...
I think she danced around it because she has truthers that support her, and she wanted to try and play it safe...
truly— I just don’t trust her at all....she came off horrible in my eyes...
And you are a fool. My opionion
HA!! BINGO! and ya beat me by just over a minute! LOL!
it’s ok to not agree with 100% of the things people say. that would be America
as for property rights, i agree we have no rights of ownership if the government can take my property away over a $50 tax.
any tax on property would be the same as a ‘permit’... if you need a permit from the government, then you have no right to it... they are allowing you to have it. and a property tax would be the same thing... they are allowing you to have your property as long as you pay them.
as for the 9-11 truther crap, it’s all pretty tough to imagine. the sheer amount of explosives required, which would be obvious to the thousands of people running out of the building, makes it radically unlikely to have been an premeditated act.
but don’t get me wrong... dismantling our military and blinding our intelligence agencies while stirring the hornets nest in iraq... were all asking for us to be hit while doing little to defend (kind of like what’s going on now).
Glenn Beck has Ron Paul on all the time and Paul is a truther type. He sure never criticizes the legions of truthers that support and vote for him
Worthless issue? She thinks the government was behind the death of 3000 citizens or at least not willing to dismiss it.
She is done except with the Ron Paul nuts. Everyone else is going to make sure this news gets out and it destroys her.
uhm— I can send a letter without the post office, for one- or choose not to send a letter....
for two— paying for a service that a local government provides is one thing...but it is a government service to own property....
A consumption tax to pay for services is the way to go- not the gov’t taxing personal property ownership....
Well thanks for addressing the issues. You must be a beckstitute.
Her drug stance alone showed something wasn’t right. I’m glad she’ll be done with now.
Sorry to disagree with you, but as soon as Medina shows an inclination to legitimize the Truther movement, she has proven her true colors.
This one fact about her simply out-trumps any other issue that she holds a stance on.
Fair or not, it places her in the same company as Van Jones, and we know all about him. It also says volumes about her judgment. For someone running for governor who has virtually no public record in what may the the last of the few remaining free states in the union, I will certainly not be taking my chances with her as a Texas voter.
I really do not think this women is a conservative so much as she is a Ron Paul libertarian and a magnet for conspiracy theorists nuts.
And by the way, BHO’s refusal to simply release his long form birth certificate after countless fights in court is not a conspiracy theory - it’s a fact.
