Mitch Landrieu appears to be winning election in a landslide (~60%).
“and their daddy was Mayor a few decades ago”
I was in the 5th grade when Daddy Moon ran for mayor of NO. My neighborhood pals and I purged a 4 block radius of his yard signs.
(I was a corrupt kid)
“...so New Orleans loses twice in one weekend?”
BWA-Haa-Haa! You owe me a new computer screen, LOL!
I absolutely love Louisiana - in fact we almost moved there a few years back near Crowley. Absolutely gorgeous houses and area.
I don’t know if I could put up with their politicians though....
Now Mitch will have to give up the LT. GOvernor position and Gov. Jindal will appt a successor to fill the spot with the approval of the legislature. Landrieu takes office Next May so I’m not sure when he is to resign the LtGov position.
Now why would a supposedly conservative Republican do that?
I believe the last time NOLA had a white mayor was 1978. I’m a bit surprised that no strong black candidate came forward. It must be because Landrieu was obama’s choice.

You learn to cope with it. Now all areas are as bad as say NO. The more rural areas tend to be more conservative.
Very conservative on the North Shore. You would love it here.
More like the Louisiana Genovese or Bonnano Family.

The ethnic makeup has changed somewhat since a lot of the damage by Katrina is still not inhabitable. I was down there shortly after Katrina and there were a lot Spanish speaking people moving in following the work/jobs. In fact NO had to or did pass some ordinaces governing the mobile Taco trucks that began showing up.
Hubby grew up right over LA line in Texas - we go through LA at least twice a year and also stop somewhere along the way. I still say one of THE best restaurants I ever went to was Prejeans in Lafayette. Awsome Gumbo....
—A resident told me once that the whole state is the fiefdom of a few families and nowhere more so than NOLA—
been true forever down there....sometimes the families change, an old one dies out, a new one rises, but definitely true.
My husband’s aunt lives N. of Baton Rogue in a VERY small town (names escapes me) she’s incredibly conservative and says the entire area near her is like that. We’re going to go visit her in June on our way to Texas.
LA is a beautiful state and the people are great - honestly, I even like NO; fun place to visit but I would not want to live there.
Mary and serpent head live in New Orleans now.
I’m with you. Never did trust Mary Matalin.
No. The racial makeup is about the same. It is nothing like after Katrina and hasn’t been that way for a couple of years now.

I grew up in LA and enjoyed it but have spent the last 35 yrs or so in Texas and enjoy that also. I didn’t like NO and only went there on business, etc. Hope you enjoy your Texas visit, a big state and hard to see a lot of it in a single trip.
We have not stopped in NO since Katrina - is most of the historic/tourist district back to normal?
Mitch is much better than C. Ray.
I guess white chocolate must be popular in NOLA now...
