Breitbart Busts Birther at Tea Party Confab

by Charles Cooper
Attending the Tea Party Convention in Nashville this weekend, The Washington Independent's always-excellent David Weigel recounts an extraordinary hallway confrontation between online publisher Andrew Breitbart and WorldNetDaily Editor-in-Chief Joseph Farah over the question of President Obama's citizenship.

*snip*

"Prove your case."

"I should prove, what, a birth certificate that may or may not exist?" Farah had gotten irritated. "That’s ridiculous. You don’t even understand the fundamental tenets of what journalism is about, Andrew. It’s not about proving things. It’s about asking questions and seeking truth."

Breitbart tensed up after that insult. "Right."

"I know you’re not a journalist, so that’s fine. But don’t diminish people who’ve been doing this for 35 years."

"So you’re going to go on record saying that I’m not a journalist?"

"Are you? I’ve never heard you claim to be. Are you?"

"I’ll let it be answered by you."

"Well, I knew [Matt]Drudge didn’t consider himself a journalist, so I assumed that you were. … I don’t know, I’m not trying to insult you."

"You did."

Breitbart is correct; it is not a winning issue.

If the goal is to defeat Hussein’s agenda, prattling on and on about his birth certificate is not going to move the electorate in that direction.

Riiiight.

And Obama did not say this on Thursday....

"Surely you can question my policies without questioning my faith," he said, pausing before adding: "Or for that matter my citizenship."

Birthers need to keep pushing our agenda

Well if the Tea Party is going to get caught up in that birther crap, they can forget any dreams of gaining support.

Only a RETARD is going to buy this birther garbage.

No offense meant to Palin. :)

The new Democrat playbook is to try to put a wedge between birthers and 'mainstream' Republicans. It's kind of a weird storyline, because they're reporting the tussle without giving any information about what the tussle is actually about.

I don't think it's beyond the pale to acknowledge that we simply do not know the answer to several questions:

* What hospital was Barack Obama born at?

* Who was the attending physician?

* Why won't Obama release any of his college transcripts?

* Why is Obama spending millions of dollars to refuse to answer these basic questions?

I can understand why a Republican might not want to go there, just as I can understand why a Republican might be reluctant to drag out Whitewater or Vince Foster's mysterious death. However, I don't see why it's so wrong to simply acknowledge that there are holes in the historical record where Barack Obama is concerned, and that it's a bit odd for someone who published 2 biographies before the age of 45.

The beauty is conservatives don’t ‘need’ the BC issue to win the day but that the topic is still a hot one in the public debate draws attention to it. There is a real possibility that evidence may arise that blows up in the Dems faces—that will be truly unprecedented to discover the POTUS is ineligible by law. Much more serious than Watergate.

The woman was showing the difference between a genuine Hawaiian birth certificate and a COL. You have to wonder, if he had the real thing why did he produce the COL?

'Birther' issue aside.

If Joseph Farah is allowed to become a major influence or 'take over' the Tea Party Movement, it is DOOMED! His 'blog'(/s) isn't called World NUT Daily for nothing.

Farah's elevator doesn't go all the way up.

I can't believe the replies on this thread. What part of cBS are you missing. This is an alleged conversation that cBS is reporting on, when they can't find real news right under their nose. I call BS!

C-BS has clearly demonstrated that they are on the team of the left which has already stated that they will use the birther issue to divide the opposition. Faithfully following the party directive, C-BS is dividing the opposition by reporting on an alleged conversation demonstrating an alleged split in the conservative opposition. I say don't take the bait - especially from the communist ministry of propaganda.

Its not up to sceptics to prove Obama is inelegible, its up to Obama to prove that he is. Its that simple, and there is nothing wrong with making any candidate for office prove citizenship or eligibility.

Yes, but Breitbart would observe that the time to do that is before the election. The barn door is swinging on this one, and the cow is up on the hill.

What people fail to realize is that Barack Obama could declare he was born on the planet Zod during the SuperBowl halftime show and it wouldn't amount to a thing. An impeachment hearing, maybe, but even that would be a stretch.

That’s the problem when you tie in particular people with the movement. It loses something along the way. What made the tea party movement successful is the grass roots effect.

Breitbart is right. Obama may not be a natural born citizen, but it’s not a “winning issue”.

It may not be, but that isn’t the issue is it, and because the drive by’s are framing the wrong issue, the resident of the White House is free to roam, without having to prove to anyone that there is a birth certificate, much less one from Hawaii, much less one that validates his right to be in the White House or to run for the presidency.

Focus, people. Whatever the validity of the birth certificate issue, it is a DEAD issue that will go NOWHERE politically. In fact, it has been re-hashed for 3 friggin years now and those who’ve bitten down on it are perceived (however right or wrong) with the same “tin foil hat” mentality as 9/11 truthers and UFO hunters.

Go ahead and hit me with the constitution, but continued pushing on the birth certificate knocks your integrity down three notches in the eyes of the public. It’s just the way it is.

Its not up to sceptics to prove Obama is inelegible, its up to Obama to prove that he is.

Exactly.

Perhaps this is what he's been waiting for. Delay, delay, delay until Birthers (or Constitutionalists or American citizens or whatever those seeking the truth might be called) turn on each other. Divide and conquer. That's when he'll go in for the kill.

It is a winning issue. They through everything at Bush, drove down his poll numbers and won big. The left did not win on the issues they won on hatred for Bush.

If this issue isn't resolved it sets a destructive precedent.

I don't understand why people want to let this slide.

This nonsense about whether someone is a “journalist” or not is irrelevent. “Journalism” is a deeply damaged profession, mainly a result of self-inflicted wounds.

Breitbart would be wise to reject the label “journalist” and just say; “I’m not a journalist, I report the truth”.
