China is telling North Korean leaders to deal with their economic problems, before they have to confront a widespread rebellion. China apparently sees North Koreas' best hope is to cut a deal with the West, to disarm and get massive food and economic aid. If North Korea does not listen to China, the Chinese are apparently not willing to come up with the needed aid themselves, but will tighten border controls, and hope for the best if North Korea collapses into disorder and civil war.

But the West already “did that deal” with NoKo. NoKo cheated, as it always has done. No more deals.
I feel terrible for the suffering slaves in NoKo, but short of a war to free them, there is little we can do. Giving food aid only props up the evil regime.

Somehow I think disorder there would not so much be civil war as simple mass extermination by the NoKo military of mouths that cant’ be fed.
And the thought if China “tightening the border” ??? I’ll bet that would be one “tight” border, more like a meat-grinder.
Isn’t the world going to howl how China should send them billions of Dollars (oops, Yuan) in aid ? When does that media howling start ? Hello ? Europe ? Copenhagen ? Are you there ?

Sounds like a perfect storm brewing. China has been the norks sugar daddy ever since the commie revolution. If China is telling the norks, get your stuff in order, then that probably means that China cannot afford to support them anymore. My bet is that the north doesn’t change their ways and they really don’t want to confront China. China would squash them like a bug. If I was South Korea, I would be arming up big time and preparing for a massive horde heading south. Could get ugly.
Depends on how many sane are left I guess.

Yeah, I saw that the other day. Heartbreaking. (I don’t always agree with Hitchens, but his FACTUAL assertions are usually top-notch, and the article is largely factual.)
