Backing down on climate change
The LA Times ^ | 2/5/2010 | Editorial

Posted on 02/05/2010 7:28:48 AM PST by wzevonfan

Global emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases rise every year, and within decades are expected to hit a worrisome atmospheric concentration threshold of 450 parts per million. At that point, there's a high probability that average global temperatures will be at least 2 degrees Celsius higher than they were in 1850 (they're already 1 C higher). Our children would live in a world of mass migrations, wars and conflicts fueled by scarce water supplies, infrastructure destruction as rising sea levels swallow coastlines, extreme weather events, wildfires and increased poverty and disease. These are not the predictions of wild-eyed liberal pundits but of thousands of climate researchers around the world, along with organizations such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the U.S. Global Change Research Program and the National Academies of Sciences.

This is maybe the silliest editorial I have seen in months. Basically, the LA Times editorial board is saying that civilization as we know it will be destroyed because our congress is not going to pass the Cap & Tax Legislation that is currently in the House Bill.

Wow!!!! In some ways I am thankful for these sorts of extreme claims. This is so silly the average person can step back and say this is absurd. Ultimately, I think this erodes belief in global warming and really only serves to ease the conscience of insane, leftist editors.

Correct.
There is no recognition of the politics of GW here. Only the blind, ignorant and arrogant continuation of the lies and deception of the last 2 decades of corrupt scientists and politicians.
Let them eat their own ink. Soon it will be drying in the barrel.

Which are infested with wild-eyed liberal "scientists"...

No thinking allowed. This is like all undergrad courses. Rote regurgitation of spoon fed pap created by accredited institutions. You don’t need to develop logical processes in your thinking. All you need is good memorization skills. Cause that’s what is important and valued.

Is the LATimes ignorant of all the revelations that have followed in the wake of last year’s release of damning e-mails at East Anglia climate center? The climate alarmists and their data are under attack in Russia, India, Holland, New Zealand, Switzerland and Brazil. Individuals involved in man-made global warming are under investigation in Europe in general, in the U.K., and in the United States at Penn State. NASA has been shown to have fudged climate data, so have UN elements. And, finally, the carbon trading scheme introduced in Europe is now emerging as the the new scam of this millenium. The LATimes ideologues continue on the attack. Why?

The editorial was a ridiculously alarmist it’s a wonder few people take these chicken littles seriously anymore. It’s like they’ve been locked in some sort of agw bubble/cave for the past ten years. Their message seems to be: ignore all the evidence that the agw scare is fake, drive on right over that cliff.

+2 degress Celsius?

It was warmer than that during the Medieval Warm Period (about 1000 AD) - and strangely enough, there were no mass extinctions of species by climate, no world plagues of disease, no forests wiped out.

Actually, civilization did rather well. The warmer climate produced better crops, and actually allowed the Vikings to farm in Greenland and “discover” North America.

Warmer climates are good for humans!

That global temperatures have increased since 1850 is not at all certain. We have seen how climate scammers manipulated the data and distorted the facts. Even the climate scammers in their secret e-mails have admitted that temperatures during the last decade have declined and did everything they could to hide that fact. This whole man caused global warming is nothing but a hoax.

Since just about every successful business has been bullied into accepting some sort of "Climate Change" modification to their companies, just about every segment of global society is now invested in the lie.

This should be on the front page of every newspaper in the World as the biggest fraud and conspiracy in history. And yet...nothing. There's no reason for them to give it up.

Why post this masthead editorial in chat, especially when they make themselves look so incredibly stupid?

It could use a barf alert, but please post such commentary, whether smart or foolish, in News/Activism. Check off for the editorial sidebar, please. It will get more eyeballs hanging there.

So why do I, an average citizen know more about the IPCC than the LA Times does?

Here are some relevant points for a so-called journalist to process before publishing such nonsense:

The chairman of the IPCC; Rajendra Pachauri, has been asked to step down because of his failed oversite in detecting glaring errors in IPCC reports.

Many of the top authors of the IPCC were invloved with the CRU emails where they themselves admitted that none of their models predicted the global temperature decline of the last decade and it was a “travesty” (Michael Mann’s word) that they couldn’t account for it.

Many errors have been found in the data of almost all of the top players at East Anglia, as well as James Hansen at NASA’s GISS.

These reports you cite are in gross error and many have been debunked, yet you choose to close your eyes and ears to the obvious truth.
