Senate leaders plan to pass a jobs bill next week featuring tax breaks for employers that hire unemployed workers, a rare bipartisan effort in an election-year Congress sharply divided along political lines.
"We want to work with the Republicans and it appears to me, on the jobs program, they want to work with us," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters. "We do believe very emphatically that we will be having a bipartisan bill."
The Senate will start work on the bill Monday, Reid said. If the bill is passed by the end of next week, when the Senate takes a President's Day break, it would hand President Barack Obama a badly needed political victory.
Passage of a bipartisan bill would contrast sharply with the way Congress has done business for the past year, reflecting the Democrats' diminished power since Republican Scott Brown scored a stunning victory last month in a special Senate election in Massachusetts. With Brown seated Thursday, Senate Democrats no longer have a filibuster-proof majority in the body, meaning they need at least some Republican support to pass legislation.
Democrats believe a jobs bill that includes tax breaks Republicans support is a good way to break the ice, while also reflecting Obama's renewed emphasis on creating jobs. Also, lawmakers worried about re-election in the midst of double-digit unemployment want to be seen as helping the 7 million Americans who have lost their jobs in the recession.

CALL IT WHAT IT IS!! IT IS SIMPLY A SECOND STIMULUS PACKAGE!!
Once again these politicians are well-intended, but they don’t understand business and markets. the stupid government can’t legislate “jobs”. the government destroys and disrupts. the free market and individuals create.
If I were an employer, and this thing passes, I'd lay off every employee and hire them back!
Why would we work with them? A tax credit to hire people won’t make companies hire people, so it’s just throwing money away. Companies will hire people if they have work, and they’ll take the money.
Taking money out of the economy to put it right back in doesn’t create work. Especially not when you’ve already borrowed a trillion dollars in a year.
What business needs is to know what it is going to cost to have workers, and what the business climate will be in 6 months. They need to know there will be money available to finance short-term needs.
Actually, you’d be laying them off now, because I’m sure the bill that passes will prevent firing and re-hiring later.
.
Less government / more jobs.
Here’s a report on government jobs actually created:

Now that Mr Reid's carcass is up against a wall, he suddenly wants to be bipartisan? I hope that the voters in his district see what an opportunist this clown really is!!!!
THEY ARE NOT LISTENING TO US.
If a Republican votes for it they are toast!
Exactly.
Make list of any RINOs who reach across the aisle.
smack them upside their RINO heads
It’s enough to drive anyone insane.
Harry ain’t too smart, he can, however, count to “41”.
Slow down. We need to give the appearance that we want to work across the aisle. And offer true suggestions on what we think should be done. Like cut spending and give tax breaks to people and businesses.
Then when the rats only put the smallest of tax breaks in the bill and increase spending we walk away from it claiming they weren’t willing to work with us. Just like the rats did when repbulicans ran congress. But to work we need all the repbulicans to stick together or it will fail.
Bingo.
They just don’t understand. Businesses don’t hire employees based on tax breaks. Businesses hire people based on their work load.
and therein lies the problem. You're expecting the lame GOP to do synchronized, high energy ninja moves. Ain't gonna happen.
I’m sorry but taking more of our money and freedom is NOT a “jobs” bill.....
