Intelligence Officials Warn Attempted Al Qaeda Attack Months Away
The terrorist organization is deploying operatives to the United States to carry out new attacks from inside the country, CIA Director Leon Panetta told Congress
WASHINGTON -- Al Qaeda can be expected to attempt an attack on the United States in the next three to six months, senior U.S. intelligence officials told Congress Tuesday.
The terrorist organization is deploying operatives to the United States to carry out new attacks from inside the country, including "clean" recruits with a negligible trail of terrorist contacts, CIA Director Leon Panetta said. Al Qaeda is also inspiring homegrown extremists to trigger violence on their own, Panetta added.
The annual assessment of the nation's terror threats provided no startling new terror trends, but amplified growing concerns since the Christmas Day airline attack in Detroit that militants are growing harder to detect and moving more quickly in their plots.
"The biggest threat is not so much that we face an attack like 9/11. It is that Al Qaeda is adapting its methods in ways that oftentimes make it difficult to detect," Panetta told the Senate Intelligence Committee.

sadly, I have no confidence in the government even attempting to stop this. imagine the impact on the midterms.
A Mumbai style attack seems the most likely. Otherwise a bomb on subway or airport forecourt.
As long as we keep fighting them over there and inviting them over here to live, all will be fine.
Millions of tax dollars to bring muslims into our Counrty.
Fantastic idea.
And this anti-American bunch of ghouls just announces this blithely. I hate them all.
Can anyone think of any significant events slated for the next 3 to 6 months that aQ would see as prime targets?
Plenty of opportunity to blast the Administration’s policies, but instead I’ll just pray for the welfare and success of the intelligence community.
I drove by the hugh Wahhabe Mosque north of Cincinnati today and noticed a lot more cars in the parking lot than usual.
And, who’s to say the government isn’t complicit in helping this little “attack”, so they have an enemy to blame, thereby building the American spirit behind them to fight this enemy and once again, pulling the wool over our eyes to what they are doing?
It may seem conspiratorial, but I’m sorry, it just seems more and more Obama is almost sending invitations to our enemies to come attack us. He even seems to be opening the door wide open for it.
Well finally some good news for the Democrats! Their allies to the rescue!
Our Government is a joke. They are absolutely inept at waging war and do not understand the mindset of a committed enemy. They are entirely preoccupied with social experimentation. Perhaps we should outsource our surrender to France and see how Gays and Lesbians like living under Sharia law.
The level of arrogance and incompetence of this admin is beyond disgusting. I wonder what 0’s end game is. This lack of vigilence has got to be intentional but, to what end?
Or maybe even "religious profiling"?
Seems to me they were pretty successful in Ft. Worth.
Obammy must be shivering with anticipation!
I wonder if Al Qaeda reads FR?
But they are such a rich part of our heritage....Obama said so!
“Can anyone think of any significant events slated for the next 3 to 6 months that aQ would see as prime targets?”
Sure, lots, starting next weekend:
Super bowl (100k people)
Daytona 500 (I think next weekend or the following) (100K)
Indy 500 (100K people)
NASCAR routinely puts 100K people in seats on a weekend.
Baseball (any team cept the cubs)
Hell, that is just off the top of my head....

From what I can recall, aQ (when acting as an organization) likes to plan attacks on dates which are significant to muslims like anniversaries of treaty signings and stuff. However, the idea of an Easter attack would seem to fit in with the pantyhose bomber. Perhaps they’ve escalated things from a war on the West to a war on Christianity as a whole.
