Bernie Goldberg Thinks I’m a “Kool Aid Drinker” Since I Was Unimpressed by His Toothless Criticisms
David Horowitz's NewsRealblog ^ | David Swindle

Posted on 02/02/2010 8:56:01 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

Am I a Kool Aid drinker? Well, this morning I’m actually a coffee drinker. The Kool Aid pitcher in the Swindle-Bey household fridge is just about empty right now.

I bring it up because apparently Fox News commentator Bernie Goldberg seems to think he knows what I’m drinking these days.

Last night I did a few live-blogging posts about the O’Reilly Factor. These were my comments about Bernie Goldberg’s appearance:

First here:

“The Hard Right is behaving more and more like the Hard Left and that’s very troublesome.” — Bernie Goldberg on The O’Reilly Factor right now.

I find it odd that Goldberg is criticizing “the Hard Right” but does not have the guts to name names.

It’s also strange that Goldberg has to poke at unnamed conservatives for tweaking Obama’s 57 states gaff and for putting dijon mustard on his hamburger.

And then here:

Coincidentally: Bernard Goldberg is back on track in his commentary after his previous segment’s wimpy criticism of “the Hard Right.”

He’s pointing out that the New York Times‘ coverage of the recent arrest of James O’Keefe is far greater than their coverage of the ACORN scandal which O’Keefe unearthed. This is a fantastic — albeit rather obvious — point. Yes, the Times is going to gang up on a Gen Y conservative activist instead of doing real journalism about a corrupt leftist organization.

Who could have seen that coming?

Bernie didn’t care for my remarks and decided to respond here at NRB:

He can have his cake and eat it too. It makes him appear as a more moderate, “reasonable” conservative while getting to avoid the unpleasantness of actually having to make a substantive critique against an unnamed conservative “hero.”

If we’re going to confront the “Hard Right” who are sabotaging the conservative movement’s defense of America we need to do so in a way which will actually accomplish something. (And we also need to weigh how destructive the “Hard Right” broadcasters are in comparison to the “Hard Left” politicians in office.)

BOR does this consistently as well.

I agree with Goldberg on that. He doesn’t have to name names. It’s obvious that there are people who would never support anything Bush does, just like there are people who could never see Bush doing any wrong. Same goes with Obama. I don’t see anything wrong with what he said.

Bill O’Reilly is an Independent. Of course he’s not going to blindly follow one side or the other.

Why can’t Glenn see what O’Reilly is and what he is doing?

Haha, no. Just an Independent/Conservative who doesn’t care what party has the power, I just want what’s best for my country.

Bernie’s even taken to bashing Hannity.

I guess he and BO’RE are an ‘item’ now. Kissing each other’s rear ends.

Blech.

Maybe Bernie is looking for a job on Communist News Network.

Yo, lil wee-wee,

I agree with Goldberg on that. He doesn’t have to name names

We all know that one of the guys he was referring was Rush, but doesn't have the balls to name him.

Wee-weed-up,

If you believe BOR to be an independent, you deserve the tag name that you chose.

Bet you love water sports.

And what exactly would you call Bill O’Reilly, if not an Independent?

I think Goldberg doesn’t name names because he goes on Hannity sometimes, but I think that he calls him out. I think he meant Hannity in the past when Hannity was all into William Ayers and others. And he has issues with some others. But however his book was dead on.

Yes, I’m pretty sure one of them was Rush Limbaugh. I’m pretty sure several posters on this site are on that list as well.

Same as me I have always been a Independent However I will never vote for any Democrat as that party stands today. I have been voting against them since since about 2003 at every level, that is in my opinion what is best for this country.

By the way I was talking about the website Big Government, the way I worded my question wasn’t exactly clear. Anyway thanks for answering there is a WeWeed Up there I just thought it might be you.

I couldn’t agree more. there would be no way i could vote for a Democrat given the current mindset of the Liberals in that party. But at this point, it’s kind of hard to support either party. I do like the Conservative movement that is building up and hopefully it works it’s way into Congress.

Here’s where Bernie Goldberg was dead wrong: there is probably NO ONE on either the Right or the Left who thinks to himself, “Dayum, the President is sooooo right about that issue, but I don’t care, I will oppose him on it anyway.”

Not the way it works. Rightly or wrongly, justified or not, legitimately or not, people oppose a president because they believe he’s wrong. That is all. They believe his policies are wrong, his ideology is wrong, the direction he is taking the country is wrong, his decisions are wrong (even if only partially so; that is, even if they agree with him partially, they are still convinced that overall the good points in the decision cannot make up for the bad points or effect).

It will always be so. It is not a question of drinking the Kool-Ade for political spite, even though one is convinced one’s position is wrong and the other side is right. It’s really that people really do authentically believe the other side is wrong.

Acting on one’s authentic beliefs and opinions, no matter how wrong or objectively unfounded, is very different from what Goldberg charged happens on the far Left and Right: that is, that people go AGAINST their authentic beliefs and opinions solely to score political points.

Glenn’s analysis isn’t always on the mark. He doesn’t see the difference between Dems and Reps. He is just plain wrong! He wants a third party. I’m glad Sarah disagreed with him when he interviewed her.

I wonder if the Kraft Foods Company or the town of Hastings, Nebraska gets upset every time the word ‘Kool-Aid’ is used in a derogatory fashion especially since it was Flavor-Aid that was used by Jim Jones? I wonder what the descendants of Edwin Perkins, inventor of Kool-Aid, think?
