MSM Leaping to Conclusions - while Big Government waits for the facts
BigGovernment.com ^ | 1/26/2010 | Andrew Breitbart

Posted on 01/26/2010 11:07:50 PM PST by SeattleBruce

**snip**

MSNBC and other “news organizations” are even billing this developing story as “Watergate”. What do Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow know? And when did they know it?

I’m sure they would like to believe O’Keefe is stupid enough to try to “wiretap” a sitting U.S. senator in broad daylight during office hours, while recording the entire sequence of events on his cell phone camera. And they’d like you to believe it, too.

But there is absolutely no allegation in the criminal complaint that “wiretapping” or “bugging” is any part of this case, just the charge that O’Keefe and the others entered Sen. Landrieu’s office in New Orleans “for the purpose of interfering with the office’s telephone system.”

And yet Carol Leonnig, in a story in Wednesday’s Washington Post writes in her lede:

"The conservative young filmmaker whose undercover sting damaged a liberal activist group last year faces federal criminal charges in an alleged plot to bug the New Orleans office of Sen. Mary Landrieu"

In other words, speculation is rampant, but facts are few. And basic logic suggests that there’s much more to this story since there is so little information.

Leonnig, as you may remember, is the reporter who was forced to retract the false and libelous accusation that O’Keefe was motivated by racism in his ACORN sting.

Will Leonnig and the Washington Post be compelled to retract again?

O’Keefe posted on twitter a few days ago about the curious “timing” of the recent (Acorn)charges against him.

I wonder if something is about to go down and the ACORN charges were made to try to stop it from happening...

I think the boys guilty of a breach of protocol. Traditionally, to gain access to a Democratic senator’s office in Louisiana, one must bring several generous sacks of cash and a bottle of good bourbon.

The FBI had to be following and possibly wiretapping OKeefe. I doubt that he was recognized and they called the FBI? When the FBI has all the goods that will win a case, is when they step in and arrest. One of the young men involved father is a corruption buster in that State. If the FBI stepped in it could cause the Dad politically trouble. Or maybe the Dad is complicit and this is going to be theater

i sure hope they dont bring RICO against breitbart

they could rope him for conspiracy since his site was the likely destination for the illegal tap tapes

they could probably turn some innocent conservation into an out-of-context agreement between o’keefe and breitbart

sure would suck

It looks to me like this is a conspiracy to bust some conservatives. I’ll bet the FBI knew about it from the beginning.

They might have even talked them into it, even entrapped them to get the goods on some conservatives. If that’s what’s happening they can all look forward to some long time behind iron bars, unless they give the FBI what they want.

The problem is that our enemies are everywhere, they’re all around us and constantly working to destroy conservatism. You don’t know who you can trust. You think you should be able to trust the FBI, but can you?

Yup.....Definitely much more.

I am not at all sure that this was about tapping or even phones.

There is another issue here. There are many more offices of many different VIPs in the Hale Boggs Complex. The Senator's phones may not have even been the target and they may well have been planing to do something that had nothing to do with phones at all.

Assuming this kid is guilty of anything, how can this be billed as ‘Watergate?’ He’s not the sitting president of the United States or anything. He’s just an overzealous young news-gatherer, focusing his young angst in a more positive fashion than do most kids his age. He was probably trying to expose the bribes of the Obama administration, the ‘Louisiana Purchase’, if you will, and got a little carried away. He should use any time in the spotlight during his trial or whatever to bring these issues to the public’s attention. He’s got guts and he’s a hero, in my book. If Eric Holder won’t prosecute the Black Panther thugs for voter intimidation in Philly, they should just let O’Keefe go.

That's what's been nagging at me ever since I heard about this earlier. There's no way these guys would be that stupid. Right?

The rest of this story should be very interesting.

I just hope we know it soon.

I think they want to force breitbart’s hand to find out what they really know. AS you recall, breitbart stated that he has alot of material that he would bring out around election time.

OKeefe is accused of aiding and abetting. So far, he's only guilty videotaping them on his cell phone while they were in the building under false pretenses.

I am not at all sure that this was about tapping or even phones.

The leftists already have their minds made up that this is the greatest thing since Watergate. Since we have almost nothing to go on at this time, they must have the complete schedule of events yet to unfold. Did they get a copy of the script from Ellie Light?

My own guess is that this is some crude form of entrapment, but they're looking for some sort of plea bargain to destroy these people without something as messy as a public trial with discovery and cross-examination. They just have to manage the incident so only their side of the story is told.

The affidavit did not accuse the men of trying to tap the phones, or describe in detail what they did to the equipment.

“There is no wiretap allegation,” said J. Garrison Jordan, the lawyer who represented Mr. Flanagan at a bond hearing, where the men were all released on $10,000 bonds.

I wonder if there is a chance that this is a plan to garner wide spread interest in this story...and then WHAM! OKeefe produces some really extraordinary bombshell that the press would then have to acknowledge.

The scant facts of this incident are just extremely strange!!

The kid seemed to be considerably above average intelligence...this is what puzzles me. Such people do not often make the sort of stupid mistakes the MSM is hyping about this story. He seems more like the type that could pull off an intricate sting operation while also giving the press enough rope to hang themselves.

The kid knows that he is now too notorious to go unnoticed and surely he would never attempt this sort of simple minded bare faced circus!?

The MSM is thick headed enough to jump in with both feet...they really do think the kid is just an idiot...

1- He pulls off a major expose of ACORN while wearing an absurd pimp outfit....proving to all that ACORN staff are not only criminals but retards.

2- The MSM refuses to give significant airtime to the story in a blatant attempt to protect ACORN.

3- OKeefe knowing that the press want to nail his hide to the wall pulls a stunt even sillier than the ACORN sting...he realizes that their desire for revenge will cause them to build the story up to Watergate proportions.

So what is up OKeef’s sleeve? Just what the hell is he playing at? I’d guess that he was well aware that he was under constant surveillance...this fact makes it all even more bizarre! If you know your enemies are watching you that makes it an easy matter to lead them astray since they will believe and act upon whatever silliness you feed them. Just imagine the possibilities of such a situation.

Then again, maybe OKeefe has lost his mind and will end up cutting out paper dolls in an institution somewhere :-)
(somehow I doubt he has lost his mind....I think something delicious is about to happen)
