McCain: GOP willing to start over on health care (snatching defeat from the jaws of victory)
CBS / Politico ^ | 2010-01-24 | Alex Isenstadt

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday that it was time to start over on the health care debate - and that Republicans would be willing to try to meet common ground with Democrats on several key issues.

Appearing on CBS's "Face the Nation," McCain said Republicans should "say we'd be willing to start over from the beginning," saying the party would like to address malpractice reform, and transportability of coverage across state lines.

"There are many things we can do," McCain suggested.

“Calm Down”

The problem is McQueegs track record is not good when he “negotiates” with the dimoKKKRATS. There is good reason to express concern.

Actually, I don’t mind McCain talking bipartisan - it keeps us on the high road and there is NO WAY that the Dems will ever work with Republicans, including RINOs.

It’s brilliant (hopefully).

We will not the let the RATS off the hook in an election year. Relax. See post 56. There is no political incentive for the GOP to give the RATS a lifeline. These comments are for MSM consumption only, and the strategy is very shrewd. Keeps the onus on the RATS for their failure to deliver - and demoralizes their base.

I take it you don’t know McCain.

It’s not for public consumption and if it were that’s still rediculous as the public is quite happy with them being a Party of No on this.

But nooo...McCain is all about himself. He believes bi-partisanship is noble and by bi-partisan he usually means cnservatives get screwed. I’d wager he was more upset about being shut out of the process then he ever was about the bill itself.

Wrong. Not when McCain is in the midst of a primary challenge from his right. He cannot possibly engage in anything serious with the RATS, or he gives Hayworth an issue.

Tons of Pubs are making bipartisan noises right now. This is all a ploy.

Perhaps. But I fear that, to McCain, it's not a "ploy". It's serious as a bi-partisan back stabber can be.

The only healthcare reform I would support is one that has the sole purpose of increasing the number of doctors.

McCain is not going to undermine his caucus, his leadership (McConnell), or Scott Brown by letting the RATS off the hook. McCain’s comments today on health care were already pre-cleared with McConnell and Kyl.

This is a very shrewd approach and further divides the RAT special interest groups. Even the NOW organization has denounced Obama and the current Senate bill. Let them keep destroying themselves while we appear bi-partisan and willing to find accommodation - helps keep the onus off us with the great swath of independents.

I got a crazy idea. Use the commerce clause to remove restrictions of an insurance company being able to sell insurance in all the other States.

Instant real competition and it’s Constitutional.

I concur completely. We want no part of this crap. We are just going thru the motions so as to not change the subject and give the RATS and their media handmaidens an “out.”

Everyone: if you want to KILL health care “reform” this year and not let it become recesitiated, call every one of your RAT senators and Congressman in DC (202-224-3121) and tell them simply but politely, “you are next.” Do NOT waste time with email; they pay zero attention to emails.

I had the pleasure of calling my asinine RAT House member on Wednesday morning, and it was very effective and VERY gratifying. I encourage others to follow suit. Be respectful, polite but firm.

This opportunistic, empty rhetoric will only help J.D.

Palin needs to be pressed on this.

This. There are quite a few things that can be changed. Things that would benefit the insurance companies and the customers. But the last attempt was basically going full retard. Thus, the next attempt probably won’t be any better.
