AZ-Sen. 2010: AZ Sen Poll: McCain Opens Primary Lead (over Hayworth) (thanks a lot, Sarah)
Real Clear Politics / Rasmussen ^ | 2010-01-22

Posted on 01/22/2010 8:02:15 AM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain (R) has known from an early stage that he could face a tough primary in his bid for re-election this year, and acted on it. He already launched radio ads touting his effort to block President Obama's "extreme left wing crusade." And just this week, Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R) recorded robocalls that went out to voters in Arizona.

Now, a Rasmussen poll (502 LVs, 1/20, MoE +/- 4.5%) shows the Maverick just over 50 percent in a potential matchup against former Rep. JD Hayworth -- not the best position for an incumbent to be, but an improvement over the dead heat Rasmussen found in November.

Primary Election Matchup
McCain 53 (+8 vs. last poll, 11/18)
Hayworth 31 (-12)
Simcox 4 (unch)
Und 8 (+1)

Hayworth , at last I heard, has a debt (lawyers) of over 200,000 from fighting accusations he was innocent of. By law I believe he must clear this debt before he files! AZ conservatives should help the guy—as I understand he has an excellent record as a conservative, and its obvious that McCain has some fear he won’t be re-elected. Check Haworth’s website.

Reagan?

Palin is many things, but like Reagan? I don’t think so.

“By law I believe he must clear this debt before he files!”

“Dec. 5 Paradise Valley fundraiser headlined by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio brought in more than $120,000 to help offset Hayworth’s $142,500 debt, said Jason Rose, the political consultant who organized and hosted the event.”

That debt is not JD’s problem. I expect he has to consider family budget matters as I don’t think he’s wealthy. But I do wish he’d declare soon if he plans to challenge Juan.

Not sure what you're talking about. Read what I responded to. Has nothing to do with Palin.

“And it was conservative states, and ONLY conservative states that voted Republican in 2008.”

and those are the only states that Palin will win if she runs in 2012.

Confirmation is a wonderful thing.

And posts like yours contribute nothing to the discussion here. You are another who, having run out of anything rational to say, has resorted to divining the real motives, and real intent of other posters. They don't mean what they say, but they mean what you say they say. A pretty obvious and weak tactic.

But, what else have the good folks at The Psychic Hot Line told you today?

It is early in the campaign. Still plenty of time to help JD and I will be sending him donations. This is the 1% I don’t agree with Sarah on but I understand why she is doing this.

> Isn't it great being a conservative?! :-)

NO POLITICIAN DESERVES TO BE PUT ON A PEDESTAL!

Why? Because they are politicians, ergo human. I am beholden more to Conservative values and principles than I am to ANY Conservative politician.

Ronald Reagan, despite how pedestal-like I and most other Conservatives hold him, was far from perfect in his enforcement of immigration laws.

Plyler v. Doe was ruled upon by the SCOTUS in 1982, during Reagan's administration, and opened the door for children of illegal alien to be allowed to attend public school in the US. It didn't stop there, did it? Reagan with Congress’ help could have fought that, but did not. Live and learn, right?

Sarah, in the short term, is doing the honorable thing — keeping a promise to her former running mate. It also serves the short-term purpose of ensuring that McCain does NOT act like a RINO. I hate it too, but keeping 41 Republican votes as Obama steps on the accelerator is VITAL. Obama isn't done yet trying to destroy this nation, people!

Politics is an unwieldy beast, sometimes with strange bedfellows to arrive at important political objectives.

Although it didn't work as planned thanks to the Obots at the DNC Convention, Rush's Operation Chaos, and his endorsement of Hillary, is an example that comes to mind ...

“Your pro-abort, liberal northeast pal, Scott Brown, is also supporting McCain. Brown started making robocalls for McCian the other day. LOL”

supporting McCain in MA is an improvement. Supporting McCain in Arizona, Alaska and South Carolina is a major step backwards.

Hey man, you posted ‘spit, meet wind’. And I wasn’t aware that you had been designated as FR’s official judge of worthy posts. Instead you sound like a Sarah dissing, ‘act like a lady’, condescending ass.

Sarah Palin is not the great Messiah that the Palin Amen Chorus anointed her to be. She can’t win the nomination in 2012 and should run for Senate for Alaska and serve a full term without quitting. She can support McCain there.

Hayworth is a great guy, a well known ‘jock,’ but he isn’t that sharp. He’s just not leadership material, and enough Arizonians know that to make this race irrelevant.

"He is the wrong person for the job"

No argument on that here, but to beat him you need someone that can win the general election, and that just isn't Hayworth.
