NOTE TO HILLARY: A "moderate" Muslim is a Muslim who has run out of ammo.
Another tar baby for this administration. They still don’t get it.

“Danger: Tariq Ramadan is coming to the US”
By Olivier Guitta
SNIPPET: “But does Notre Dame really know who Ramadan is?
For starters, he is the grandson of Hassan Al Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist terrorist organization born in Egypt in 1928.”
SNIPPET: “Tariq Ramadan was born in 1962 in Switzerland. After first planning a career as a professional soccer player, he eventually gave up the glamorous fantasy life, and settled down in the family business. He decided to follow his father’s footsteps as an Islamic scholar, and became a philosophy/theology teacher in Swiss universities.”
SNIPPET: “In 1991, he went to Cairo to receive the teachings of Islamist professors. Upon his return to Switzerland, he founded the Movement of the Swiss Muslims. His objective was to reIslamize Muslim youth.”
SNIPPET: “Ramadan is a pragmatist. When he realized that his Swiss venture was not leading him anywhere, he decided to turn to France. There he got the support of the main Muslim organization, the UOIF (Union Des Organisations Islamiques de France), along with the main young Muslim organization UJM (Union des Jeunes Musulmans). His ‘concept’ of Islam as the solution just worked out extremely well among French Muslims youths.”
SNIPPET: “A few days ago, in an interview with French Magazine Le Point, Ramadan very subtly revealed his real beliefs. Hiding behind what the Muslims throughout the world think, Ramadan evoked what he called the ‘interventions of New York, Bali or Madrid’. So, September 11 was not a terrorist attack, it was rather just an ‘intervention.’ Of course, nowhere in this interview did Ramadan condemn terrorism.
What about his links to terrorism?”

The ACLU wants to spin it as just a donation issue but the guy's speech writer was Djamel Beghal. There's no way he didn't know about Beghal's ideology.
In his campus visits, however, Mr. Ramadan's dynamic teaching style made a powerful impression, said R. Scott Appleby, director of the Kroc institute. Notre Dame was looking for a scholar who could "lead us into interreligious dialogue and intrareligious dialogue and religious-secular dialogue," Mr. Appleby said. Mr. Ramadan's approach "was rooted in a kind of spirituality and a scholarly method that was innovative and original and very fruitful. "He has developed his own philosophy, his own synthesis of the West and Islam," Mr. Appleby continued, "drawing from Nietzsche on the one hand and Islamic philosophers on the other. He has critiques of capitalism and globalization, integrated into Islamic ideas. At the same time, he is challenging Islam to become more universalist, to embrace democracy, to help shape democracy. SNIPPET: “SNIPPET: “LONDON, Jan. 21 (UPI) — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has lifted a six-year old ruling denying a visa for a Muslim scholar to enter the United States, the State Department said.
The department invoked the Patriot Act in 2004 when it revoked the visa of Tariq Ramadan, accusing him of contributing financially to a charitable organization the United States said was linked to terrorists. Clinton Wednesday signed an order allowing Ramadan to apply for a new visa, The New York Times reported.”
If he was truly a moderate he wouldn't be trying to get into a position where he can lecture US college students. He would be trying to persuade muslim students not to blow themselves up.
(ANSAmed) - ROME, JUNE 3 - According to the controversial Swiss intellectual and Islam scholar, Tariq Ramadan, a "change in attitude" and "effective and necessary action", a "real and profound message of respect" but above all "humility" are what the Muslim world expects in the keynote speech that USA President Barack Obama will be making tomorrow in Cairo.... Thus, "the first thing that can be expected" is that, by talking to the Muslim world, he will also be talking to the "US and the West". Ramadan confirmed that during the first few months of his presidency Obama "has shown respect for Islam, announced the closure of Guantanamo and an end to torture, and adopted a firm stance against the Israeli government with regard to the building of settlements". ------"TARIQ RAMADAN, 'MUSLIMS WANT RESPECT AND HUMIILITY'" ANSAmed ^ | June 3 2009 | ANSA staff
Lots of prominent moderate Muslims are also accusing Ramadan of double talk and hijacking Islam for a dangerous project. Most of his detractors are coincidentally Muslim. For instance, the head of the French Muslim Council and head of the Paris Mosque, Dalil Boubakeur, declared recently, when one invites Tariq Ramadan, it is not to listen to what Allah and the angels said; Ramadan is the vehicle of fundamentalist Islam.——— “Tariq Ramadan is not a victim,” by Olivier Guitta, The American Thinker, December 22nd, 2004

Dutch sack Muslim scholar over Iran government ties

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The Dutch city of Rotterdam and its university have fired Swiss Muslim scholar Tariq Ramadan as an adviser to the city over his involvement with groups that detractors say hurt his role as an expert on integration issues.
Ramadan is a visiting professor of theology at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands’ second-largest city.
Rotterdam’s mayor is Ahmed Aboutaleb, a Muslim who was formerly junior minister for social affairs and who has vowed to ease tensions between the city’s native Dutch and a growing immigrant population.
Ramadan was criticized after media reported last week he was hosting a weekly television show on broadcaster Press TV, which Rotterdam says is financed by the Iran government.
