With the nation still mired in a deep recession that has millions of Americans experiencing economic ruin, the Obama administration marked Barack Obama's one-year anniversary as president by displaying a photograph of First Lady Michelle Obama wearing a $2,763 designer coat as the 'White House photo of the day' on the front page of WhiteHouse.gov.

Nola Weinstein, Fashion Editor for Glam.com noted that Michelle Obama was wearing a "mat lurex Moschino coat with a matching cap sleeve dress from the brand's Pre-Spring 2010 collection."
Sharon Haver at FocusOnStyle.com gushed over the outfit, calling it "very Camelot-ish".
Haver noted that Moschino sent out a copy of the White House photo with the bragging caption:
Moschino is pleased to announce that First Lady Michelle Obama wore a mat lurex Moschino coat with a matching cap sleeve dress while celebrating the year anniversary of the inauguration at the White House.

The Obama's are not shy about lavishly spending exhorbitant amounts money on themselves in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression.
The First Couple took a ten-day Hawaii vacation over Christmas and New Year's where they stayed at a $4000 per day $8.9 million estate. Michelle Obama was photographed wearing $635 per pair shoes while out for dinner in Hawaii.
A recent study of five pairs of footwear worn by Michelle Obama shows an average price of $700 per pair.
It could not be readily determined how much the matching dress for the $2763 Moschino coat is selling for.
A woman lucky enough to have a job in this economy that pays the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour would have to work nearly 380 hours without taxes withheld to be able to afford Michelle Obama's Moschino coat seen on the front page of the White House Web site as the Obama's photo of the day.
Can you say Imelda Marcos?
Funny...when I saw this picture that was the image that first came to mind as well.
She must have a thing for housewares. We can now add
OVEN MITT
to
Draperies
Sofa Slipcover
Shower Curtain
Bedspread
What am I forgetting? I know there are more ...
maggief - Since you have a great library of photos, maybe you could start a thread on MO’s Interior Decoration Wardrobe. A “look back” at this past year in Fashion ...
It would be fun!
Unfortunately I do not save these images. I happen to remember where they are on the net.
I am struck by the irony of the media making a mountain out of a molehill when Sarah Palin spent some money on fashion to hit the campaign trail! Meanwhile, no one appears to be disturbed at Michelle’s clothes fetishes.
Well, the book sales of the books written by Bill Ayres must be selling very well!!! sarc
I can’t open the video.
From the image those do look like the Robert Clergerie over-the-knee-boots, around $850.

I don’t pay full price for anything unless I have absolutely no choice.
I despise this family. I hope one day things bounce back to bite them, and they are left hopeless and penniless.
I fish... I know useful quality when I see it.
I wonder if they have it in camo. LOL
I believe you are correct on the boots. Go to about 1:05 in the video for a good view of them.
$2,763 coat?
It doesn’t really jive with Barack’s new rail against the rich and powerful. I think his populist man of the people charade isn’t going to fly.
Since Michelle is so tall, she might have to pay and extra buck or two for X-long. I’m sure that they have flattering colors.
at least there is no damn belt 6 inches above her navel.
She still looks some of the bag ladies I saw on Chicago street corners!!
