Democrats scramble in Massachusetts to retain Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat
Washington Post ^ | 1-16-10 | Karl Vick and Chris Cillizza

Shaken by polls showing Republican Scott Brown surging in the Senate race that could decide the fate of President Obama's agenda, Democrats on Friday scrambled to shore up the battered candidacy of Martha Coakley, the state attorney general whose once-commanding lead appeared to vanish in the space of two weeks.

The White House announced that Obama will campaign here Sunday. Former president Bill Clinton broke away from promoting Haitian relief to rally the Democratic faithful, which polls show has taken a victory by Coakley as much for granted as analysts say her campaign clearly did.

Both candidates announced plans to barnstorm the three days before Tuesday's special election. Brown will mount a bus tour; Coakley will place her hopes on a recast stump speech unveiled at the rallies with Clinton.

Striving to redefine the race with a message of compassionate populism evocative of Edward M. Kennedy, whose death created the vacancy, Coakley emotionally told of the struggles of a young mother seeking health care, an ice cream parlor owner unable to expand his store, and a construction worker who needs work to afford the medicine to keep his wife's breast cancer in remission.

"That is wrong," Coakley said after each story. "And that's why I'm going to go to Washington and fight for Stephanie . . . Vince . . . Jim and his family."

The fundamental dynamic of the race fell in place months ago, when Brown set off in a pickup truck for the only campaign the Republican could afford: retail, door-to-door. The campaign was so strapped for cash that aides described the $40,000 spent in the primary as a major hit. Brown could not afford to mail out absentee ballots, often so crucial in a close race.

"NO BIAS THERE, you freakin scumbags"

I'd like a way to _empirically_ say what is biased and what isn't. We know, but there is an issue of proof for people. I'd like someone to help develop TVbias.com.

We’ve won nothing yet.

Need to keep donating, phone banking, and all the rest.

We need to make this Too Big Too Steal.

They already know they can’t win outright; their only option is voter fraud.

[...Martha Coakley, the state attorney general whose once-commanding lead appeared to vanish in the space of two weeks. ]

Yeah, her lead vanished shortly after she opened her elitist, ignorant, condescending, naive and stupid mouth.

Especially now that we know what he thought about Obama during the campaign.

Clinton added, “What they were against was abuse of power.”

And what do you do with those in government who are abusing power? You vote them out or you frog march them out. We're on the verge of voting them out.

Many MA people would be in support of having “ol’ Kennedy” vote posthumously since it was “his” seat.

None of those stories is a compelling reason to enact Obamacare.

Excellent point, but the American people neither understand nor discern such hypocrisy.

Democrats scramble in Massachusetts to retain Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat

What may be the greatest line spoken by a politician or candidate in the last 50 years was spoken by Mr. Brown in response to a condescending question by the insider David Gergan:

"With all due respect, it’s not the Kennedy seat and it’s not the Democrats’ seat, it’s the people’s seat."

Just WOW! He hit THAT one out of the park! The best part is that Gergan and everyone else looks at Mr. Brown as an interloper! How dare he try to usurp the natural order of things! That seat has always belonged to a Kennedy! It's inherited! Really, I think it's in the Constitution!

Is there any doubt as to the priorities of these scum?

That jumped out at me, too. Not surprising, though. Everthing, including leading a humanitarian mission where peoples' lives are literally at stake, is a distant second to Democrats and the Left retaining their power ... and they and the compliant media will rationalize their hard-hearted choice as the "compassionate" thing to do.

Gee did you hear that moles have been placed within the ranks of the 300 SEIU members being bussed to MA. They will be recording individuals involved with voter fraud. THey be exposed on national TV with big fines and long jail terms to follow.......pass it on! (wink)

The SEIU folks really shouldn’t trust anyone...It could be a sting operation.

Let’s talk about hope and change.

If Brown wins, there will be plenty of it.

If Croakley wins, it will be the same-o and more same-o. Just another brain-dead hack in the Senate.

You obviously have not read Sam Tanenhaus’s The Death of Conservatism or listened to Jonathan Alter’s comment: “the Republican Party is not only becoming more regional, more of a Southern party, obviously an older white party, but also a much less well-educated party. So they’re becoming whiter, more southern and more stupid as time goes on.” Because of the massive influx of stupid white southerners into Massachusetts from the other 57 states, Brown has a chance. However, This will be offset by the multiple votes of cousin Pookie and the as yet not disenfranchised deceased.

Patriots,

Please refrain from referring to this as “Kennedy’s seat.” That is the left trying to control thought through controlling the language.

As Scott Brown said, that is the people’s seat.

Presently, it is no more than a vacant seat.

I think we overestimated the state’s Democraticness and underestimated the national mood,” one senior Democratic strategist said Friday. “We thought that the state’s deep blue voting pattern would help us withstand national trends.”

Oh Oh --Gibbs said there wasn't any national trend

Link to NO COLAS for several years

It's not just the seniors on SS, it's retired Military, Veterans on disability and those on SS disability also.

We know there is an 8% cut to Medicare with an increase in premiums, there is also a NEW Fee to Tricare the retired Military's health plan. There are also cuts to the VA in obamadeathcare. And as we know the famed Mayo Clinic in AZ is no longer accepting Medicare patients, those on Medicare are having a very hard time finding a doctor to accept them. Tricare which is administered from the same agency, their members are next on the list to be shunned by the medical community.

obamadeathcare paid for by cuts and taxes on the most vulnerable, Veterans, retired Military, the disabled and senior citizens, so he can give illegals free health care.

Pick up the article send it to as many senior citizens as you know. Print it out along with the Washington Compost article and pass it around. Seniors have not been informed of the cuts. I watch our evening news in Memphis and have not seen word one about it.

Demand your GOP elected congress critters grow a backbone and talk about the cuts/taxes on seniors in obamadeathcare. We gray hairs are the voting block most likely to vote each election cycle. I called Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker and made those demands. No use calling my commie House member, he's an 0 butt kisser deluxe.

I've seen people shoot themselves in the foot before, but never reload so fast.

Golly, Coakley must be a real sharpshooter (/sarc).
