eh, it’s his opinion and no more.
Did the people of Greensburg, Kansas make a pact with the Devil?
Scroll down for the article.
BS. I could claim that Haiti playing the USA to a 2-2 tie in soccer is the cause of this earthquake. Circumstantially, of course.
All humanity has made a pact with Satan. That’s why we die.
Satan is the Prince of this world, and too often we forget that...even Pat.
Bad things happen to good people, and it isn’t always because of “pacts with Satan”.
And naturally the "new testament view" is so far superior to that pathetic "old testament," right? No wonder after two thousand years of following the first hippie western civilization is in such a mess.
So . . . if the "old testament" is so meeeean, why are Jews so liberal?
Hard to say for sure. Probably just an act of God, oops, I mean act of nature.
On the other hand, I know Guyana was a center for Voodoo and the Reverend Jim Jones used to stomp on the Bible during his sermons. It totally is within reason to me that the Almighty just had enough of Jonestown.
I do recall Jesus saying those who were killed in the collapse of the Tower of Siloam did not die because of sin but because they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then again they probably were not into Voodoo.
Jesus was no hippie. He also said every thing, even every dot and period in the scriptures was accurate. He was of course referring to the Jewish scriptures since the New Testament did not exist at the time.
“Bad things happen to good people”
I have seen my share of that many times. Just last week the wife of a friend of mine complained of not feeling well. Her situation worsened and she went to the hospital. She then without warning went braindead and the doctors did not know why. She was a truly terrific person only 39 years old and leaves behind her husband and two young children. So very sad.
“He also said every thing, even every dot and period in the scriptures was accurate.:
True. He also testified that He did not come to destroy the law of the prophets but fulfill it because it testified of Him.
I have wondered about the wrath of God theory myself. Pat may not be far off the mark. Remember Sodom and Gomorrah.
Some more recent examples:
Thailand - a den of prostitution and fornication (hit by a major earthquake
New Orleans - a city of debauchery and revery (hit by a massive hurricane)
San Francisco - a port of abomination and unnatural affections (hit by a massive earthquake in 1990)
Haiti - known for voodoo.
My friends, I think God is trying to tell us something and I for one am listening.
“I hope dies a horrible death and suffers before the end.”
You should be careful of wishing things like this to happen to anybody. They can have a nasty way of biting back and happening to you.
Read post 17 . . .and I am the last to be a self-righteous popinjay . . . I am a commited Christian and grew up the son of a minister who barely existed on the salary he was given, who put other people far ahead of him and his family. I have lived my life in contact with people of true power and priviledge, and those of meager and simple means. I choose to associate with the latter. I don’t claim the be the man my father was, but I learned a lot of lessons of selflessness along the way. There are many stories I could tell. I have lived to know what it means to deprive yourself so that others may be helped.
I learned what it means to be a part of the Christian community and the importance of the admonition of Paul to try to be “blameless” because the adverse impact it has on your ministry. That sure is a nice headquarters spread Pat shows pictures of on TV. How many Haitians can you clothe and feed with the money it took to build that?
I am very skeptical of quite a few televangelists, particularly when they display the tendency to excess for themselves as Pat Robertson does. Quite a few are good ones; several have validated my skepticism. I have known way too many people over the years that have absolutely poured themselves out, physically and financially, serving other people. Pat Robertson does not fit that model. I am not a believer in this modern gospel of “prosperity”. While obviously, Pat Robertson does some good work, he has a tendency to play God a little too much and seek glory for himself. It appears to me he has become a wealthy man for his efforts. In my opinion, that is the bad fruit. If we were not to apply that principal to evaluating people and the lives they lead, why were we given that wisdom of instruction in the first place? I did not judge Pat Robertson by any type of eternal condemnation. THAT is judging that is prohibited.
But it is a true tragedy, and not “blameless”, for him to squander the hard work and contributions of many people just because he wants to spout off to his own glory. Someone of his supposed learning and insight should know that better than most people. Pat Robertson has long needed to do some cleaning up of his act.
Seems like you have a little judging and presumption problem of your own.
Good article.
My sympathies to your friend and you.
Sometimes, our loved ones linger for long periods of time. Pope JP 2, was one, and although I’m not a Catholic, I believe he was a good and Godly man.
On a personal note, my poor wife has been terminal since November of 2008. She is in misery...not pain...but the knowledge she is going to die, and the excruciating pain of waiting for the inevitable. For some reason, the Lord has not allowed that to happen, in spite of prayers that He take her home.
The experience has given me a completely different outlook on life and death, and God’s role in our lives.
It's too late to argue. At any rate, I apologize to all the chr*stians here for losing my temper. I'm just fed up with all the put-downs of the "old testament" as being so primitive and heartless and inferior. And yes, I know the quote I objected to was in the article, not in the post of any FReeper.
