Fresh details emerged today of the backroom dramas as Sarah Palin alarmed her campaign managers with a string of gaffes during her run for vice-president in 2008.
Race of a Lifetime, a new book by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin which is serialised in The Times this week, reveals that advisers to John McCain were taken aback by how little Mrs Palin knew about politics and history when she was confirmed as Mr McCain's Republican running mate after a cursory, 12-hour selection process.
"You guys have a lot of work to do," Steve Schmidt, Mr McCain's campaign chief, is said to have told the experts he had recruited to tutor her. "She doesn't know anything."
Heilemann and Halperin write: "Palin couldn't explain why North Korea and South Korea were separate nations. She didn't know what the Fed [the Federal Reserve] did. Asked who attacked America on 9/11, she suggested several times that it was Saddam Hussein. Asked to identify the enemy that her son would be fighting in Iraq, she drew a blank. Later, on the plane, Palin said to her team: 'I wish I'd paid more attention to this stuff'."

That's a lie!
Does that make at least 100 other FReepers liars too?
Hopefully now that she has a place @ FOX she will disentangle herself from Juan's grasp.
It’s old news that those contributions were payback to those politicians for their initial contributions to SarahPAC to help her get it off the ground this time last year. They’re paid off now, so she owes them nothing financially.
The lie you’re spreading is that she’s using SarahPAC to support liberal causes. Stop being disingenuous.
The enemedia try to have it both ways on this, as usual.
On the one hand they try to say that Palin “drew a blank” on the identity of the enemy her son was sent to Iraq to fight. On the other hand they try to say that she kept saying it was “al Queda”, and that this was wrong.
Al Queda in Mesopotamia (Iraq) is a correct answer, and it doesn't “link” Saddam Hussein with 9-11; as they also try to claim.
Just how many self-contradictory and self-serving accounts do they think the American public will believe?
McCain is NOT her friend & neither are the others and let's hope she sees this clearly by now & gets over her fixation with him.
I don’t believe a single word of this.
After the articles in the British papers, you can reg. and post comments re the article.
I am registered with several British papers and state my comments and information after the articles so people can read there is another side.
It would be more advantageous for FReepes to post their comments after the article in the Times UK
Obama bows down to foreign potentates.
I think she needs to destroy the little pissant Steve Schmidt in order to a) get him off her back and 2) show she has the stomach to play in this league. She made hay in Alaska by taking on the good old boys and winning. She needs to do it nationally, and not just by talking.
Thanks BSF, I had meant to say “I think schmitt DOES NOT like women in high places? Fingers and brain were not working together. I think you’re right, he’s jealous of women in high places and maybe even a bit scared of them. That’s the reason for all of bluster and stern words to women. He’s also a mean little llama pellet.
I almost fell for it until I saw the bit about her believing Hussein attacked us on 9/11.
Now these people are just making up crap to cover their own fannies, and in Steven Schmidt’s case -that’s ALOT to cover!
People aren’t sending her money to give to another moderate (RINO) repubican contender.
All freepers, please do what SoCalPol suggests in post 167.
