Liz Cheney, the founder of Keep America Safe, tells National Review Online that President Obamas national-security remarks this afternoon, plus the press conference with John Brennan and Janet Napolitano, were extremely troubling.
Over the course of the last year, President Obama has taken his eye off the ball and allowed America's counterterrorism systems to erode, says Cheney. Brennan and Napolitano both said they were surprised to learn from the review released today that al-Qaeda in Yemen was operational. Napolitano went on to say she hadn't realized previously that al-Qaeda might use an individual to attack us. Yet, in the past year, weve had three attacks on America from individuals with Yemeni connections from the terrorist at the recruiting station in Little Rock to the terrorist at Ford Hood and now the Christmas Day bomber. Thus, she says, it is inexplicable that our nation's top counterterrorism officials would be surprised by a method of attack we've repeatedly seen before.
At the end of the day, we cannot win this war without daily, unwavering, resolute presidential stewardship, says Cheney. By tasking his counterterrorism officials to spend their time focused on trying to close Guantanamo and investigating their predecessors, by treating terrorists as criminals, by treating terrorist attacks on the U.S. as the acts of isolated extremists, President Obama has failed to make fighting terror and keeping the nation safe his top priority.

I LOVE THAT GUY...!!!!
And Liz isn’t bad either.
Liz Cheney right on target as usual...
Maybe if Obama promises to televise airport screenings on C-SPAN that will help regain some of his popularity?
whoops..! Yeah..! (sheepish grin)
Napolitano needs to resign just for sheer stupidity.
If she was out to protect us, she would have a better handle on the last 1400 year and recognized there are periods of Islamic expansionism.
We are in one of their most robust periods as Iran, the heart of it goes nuclear.
Suitcase nukes? Are on order and will be here next week.
I would prefer of Cheney et al would go away.
Iran will hand Hamas a nuke or dirty bomb. They’ll hit Israel with it.
Then, we get to watch Omoslem say “Gee whiz, we didn’t see THAT coming. We’ll do everything in our power blah blah blah.....”
“Brennan and Napolitano both said they were surprised to learn from the review released today that al-Qaeda in Yemen was operational.”
OMG. Its their job to know that - they should be out of a job after this
People have been grumbling that he didnt let a little terrorism interrupt his vacation.
I LOVED the good men and women President Bush had the wisdom to bring in as advisers and trusted department heads....all of them were capable of the job at hand and dedicated to AMERICA not to the republican party or President GW.
I miss Dick Cheney and EVERY TIME he rears his mind and speaks out I wanna stand a little taller and I feel a grateful for a brief interlude strong common sense speak that does not mince words. Liz had the same ability to cut to the chase with strength and common sense backing her every word. I just love this good woman.
Every time I hear that boob in the WH use the words "I have ordered" or I decree or whatever, I just want to puke. Literally. He is one stomach churning piece of indecision and an especially good at the insipid blame game.
Me too but...this was Liz Cheney...his beautiful daugher and mother of 4 or 5 children. Not sure of the count.
Not me. Someone has to speak the truth. The Cheney’s are correct and have a right to speak their minds. When they do...I listen.
Liz Cheney rocks. She is brilliant, she’s a patriot and not one to mess with.
Thank God she belongs to us.
Mega Dittos!
Very poor journalism, as usual. Referring only to “Cheney” in the headline is improper when the article is about someone other than the former VP. It would be like referring to Miami in a headline for a story all about Miami, Ohio.
