UE has been rising since about mid 2007.

Better chart here. UE is fairly flat thur March 2008 then start climbing. No matter how they massage the numbers there is no way "the average worker" has been "Unemployed 27 months" as CNN claimed.

Nice chart. I don’t believe that unemployment has been flat for the past six months. That view has been manipulated to keep the number stable, and by dropping off some long-term unemployed while extending others, - probably by federal funds flowing in ‘preferred’ states.

Better chart here.

I posted the link, but it was to an 'active' chart. Every time someone updates it or puts in new parameters at that website, the one in my post changes to reflect that. I should have used a captured image.
