Fox News host Glenn Beck's national domination
Washington Post ^ | 1/2/2010 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 01/02/2010 8:11:26 AM PST by Saije

It's official: Americans admire Glenn Beck more than they admire the pope.

This news, at once unsettling and unsurprising, came from the Gallup polling organization on Wednesday. Beck, the new Fox News host who has said President Obama has a "deep-seated hatred for white people" and alternately likens administration officials to Nazis and Marxists, was also more admired by Americans than Billy Graham and Bill Gates, not to mention Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. In Americans' esteem, Beck only narrowly trailed South Africa's Nelson Mandela, the man who defeated apartheid.

The 45-year-old recovering alcoholic and Mormon convert has become the first true demagogue of the information age. His nightly diet of falsehoods and conspiracies on Fox, and his daily outrages on the radio, have propelled his popularity past even Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. His method is simple: He goes places where others are forbidden by conscience.

Death panels? Government health insurance for dogs? FEMA concentration camps? An Obama "civilian national security force" like Hitler's SS or Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard? An administration official advocating forced abortions and sterilization agents in drinking water? Beck trafficked in them all in 2009.

He also proposed on his radio show that people should read Hitler's "Mein Kampf" to prepare for Obama's health-care plan -- and that's in addition to the 28 times the Fuhrer made an appearance on Beck's Fox show in 2009. The Anti-Defamation League identified the secret to Beck's success when it noted that he, unlike other prominent right-wing talkers, was willing "to give a platform to the conspiracy theorists and anti-government extremists."

Beck's comment re hating whites was in relation to Obama’s criticizing the white Cambridge police Sergeant for when the Black Harvard professor complained. Beck said he did not know whether the hatred was for whites or white culture.

Dana has never had such a large number of people reading what he wrote before! Perhaps he enjoys the ride on Glenn’s coat tails! The name calling libs add fuel to Becks popularity. Love it.

After 2 weeks off, and all that has happened over the holidays - Glenn should be all greased up for the coming weeks!

>>>>>Yeah, I love how they refer to Beck as The 45-year-old recovering alcoholic, but not Obama as the former drug user

Yes, every time we mention B Hussein O we should mention his recovering from cocaine addiction. Then follow that up with Kenyan liar and one who has abandoned his relatives in squalor.

"Beck trafficked in them all in 2009."

Beck didn't "traffic" anything - he simply shows the viewer what this administration believe by quoting or showing video of them saying these things.

I wish Beck would go and cover Obama’s natural born status.

The nastier and more rage obsessed the “Progressives” became, the more people who tuned into his show out of curiosity to learn more about him.

Now, most of them have become devoted followers. The “He lies” mantra just does not stick because Beck goes out of his way to prove what he says and shows that most of his facts come directly from the White House itself, or the Marxists who work there that he is exposing on a daily basis.

Ha ha yeah, I agree. The only defense he could offer is that he isn't 'recovering'!

My email to Milbank:

To me, your column on Glen Beck illustrates that it is you who is out of touch with the American people, not Beck.

“A better question might be: “Is Glenn Beck America?” All ages have their charlatans. The fact that Beck’s stew of venom and fabrication has been such a triumph probably says less about Beck than about us. He has merely captured the moment.”

Beck is popular because he is exposing the charlatans, not because he is one. The charlatans have held sway for many years. That would be you and the dominant media, both written and broadcast.

You guys love to lampoon people like Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity and Coulter with rhetoric and innuendo but you never seem to fact check what they say. They are almost always right but you avoid confronting that. So was McCarthy. Instead, you impugn them and try to destroy their reputations. That may work among your small group of acolytes but, as the poll numbers you cite show, you guys are in the minority. The fact that all your commercial news enterprises are failing is more proof.

Wake up and fact check! We conservatives welcome converts to common sense.

- - - - —
Beck is an active (practicing), Temple Attending Mormon. Beck no longer considers himself, in any way shape or form, to be Catholic. He believes he has found the “one true Church” in Mormonism.

I wonder if Beck subscribes to the LDS doctrine/teaching that the Catholic church is the “whore of Babylon” or not?

Salvation’s point is “once a Catholic, always a Catholic”. Since Beck was baptized as a Catholic as a child, many Catholics (in my experience) would consider him actually still Catholic, just not practicing.

I pray that his eyes will be opened to the truth.

When we are told how many members the Catholic church has, is Beck and the millions of ex-Catholics like him included in the count?

There is a new phrase floating around.....

pompously insufferable sanctimonious selfrightousists

It wasn’t coined to describe the great conservative Glen Beck

Hubby loved him but is starting to question his trustworthiness.

I offer you the same advice I offered Milbank. If you don't believe Beck, or if you just feel uneasy about what he says, do some fact checking on your on. I don't mean to check that he said it but to fact check what he said.

If you don't like his style that is understandable but what he says is always true as best as I can discover.

Believe it or not,I found Glenn Beck new book at my local public library! Very informative, but not everyone likes his style.

My boss maintains "you can't tell if any of that is true"totally dismissing the references and citations that fill the last part of the book.(I left the book lying out ,and my boss placed another book on top ,I suspect because the picture of Beck in that fake uniform made him uncomfortable.)
