A whole lot of Massachusetts and New York Catholics can't stand her.
I think an article can be written "Why Country Club Episcopalians From Connecticut Hate Sarah Palin" as well.
As for me, I like her a lot.
I don’t see Jewish liberals being any different than non-Jewish liberals in the context you stated.
This reeks of just another opportunity to bash Jews.
I hate to break it to everyone, but the reasons Jewish people are very liberal is: (1) they are an urban people with the bulk of the population centered in and around NYC and (2) they tend to have more advanced degrees (which correlates in liberal voting patterns).
I would also opine that endless posts about how stupid Jews are on conservative websites makes it pretty clear Jews are not wanted in the Republican party by a significant percentage of Republicans.
Not exactly welcoming.
Exactly! And the values represented.
I never said they are stupid. I was just giving my honest opinion of liberal Jews I have talked to.
They will turn on Obama
The media isn't getting away with it. That was the commonly accepted wisdom but Palin has done a reversal on the media. You can see it in this article. Commentary Magazine and Jennifer Rubin are calling those who engaged in the smear campaign to account.
And yes, one can see it in other groups. Catholics who go to Mass on a regular basis are outraged over Obama successfully getting a slim majority of the Catholic vote, of Notre Dame honoring him. Want to see some real slams on a group, read what Catholics say about their flagship university.
For the answers to why many Jews “do not like” Palin, you need only search American-Jewish history for why so many Jews in America are, in the first place (a)secular and not religious and (b)Democrat-Liberal in the main - for those things alone explain much of any Jewish antipathy to Palin.
Part of that history places many prominent Jewish-American intellectuals of the last century (a)in the labor movement and among left-leaning political movements, (b)among the “new deal” advocates of FDR, (c)in the early part of the civil rights movement, and (d) in academia in a larger proportion to their own numbers than other American groups - an industry that became completely dominated by liberals and leftists in the last century.
In other words, allot of the “liberal” ascendancy among American Jews - led by leading Jewish-American intellectuals - took place outside of the international issue of the state of Israel.
While Harry Truman did approve the U.S. recognition of the state of Israel, and leading liberals since have at least paid lip service to that status - while often undermining that lip service in their Mideast policy choices - the American “liberal” dominance of many Jews continues from its sources in American domestic issues and the political history of the policies advocated, historically, for those American domestic issues, and, in particular, the roles leading Jewish intellectuals played in that history.
What is not yet well understood is a full analysis of the political sentiments, in an American context, of the rapidly growing and socially conservative Orthodox Jewish-American groups. In my part of the world - New York-New Jersey, they represent nearly all the expansion of the Jewish-American population, locally. Secular Jews are mostly like most liberals, reproducing at something less than full replacement numbers (less than 2 children per couple, on average), while nearly all the Orthodox raise very large families.
Non-Jewish social conservatives are much closer to the Orthodox Jews in their general social values. For that reason alone, non-Jewish conservatives need to focus on building bigger bridges with them politically, because, in time, I believe THEY will likely be the majority among American Jews.
You make your points respectfully and rationally. A close co-worker is a liberal Jewish law following Jew who gets emails from Move-on and gives money to ACLU. I try to talk to him without arguing. I watch FNC and listen to talk radio so know much more about what Obama is doing than him.
Horowitz did a chapter in ‘Politics of Bad Faith” on radical Jews that was interesting.
I have read your complaint here before. Ever listen to Mark Levin? He is just one example of what drives many here but on his show he demonizes those average Joe's that don't vote republican all the time (calls them idiots) and dehumanizes them. In other words he teaches “They are stupid, they have no worthwhile opinions. Dont even talk to them”. So if a group like Jews vote Democrat, then listeners will conclude the group is all bad.
In reality Americans had good reason to vote against Republicans 2008. Now next election... I wont be so understanding

Those who spent a quarter of a million bucks or more on the "right" education do not like to be told it's common sense.
There's no rationale out there that quite covers the phenomenon unless we imagine such people to be mentally deranged.
When I was a brand new teacher (20 years ago) my Principal sent me over to the Holocaust Museum on Miami Beach for a symposium on the Holocaust for Teachers. There was a Death Camp Survivor there. He gave a talk detailing his experiences in the camps. I sat front and center to the podium and when he was done, there was a Q&A session. My hand was up first. I told him my Q had three parts:
Q: When you were first herded up by the nazis for transport to the camps, why didn't you take up arms and fight back? A: Impossible, the nazis passed severe GUN CONTROL LAWS that prohibited possession long before they put the first Jew on a cattle car.
Q: Have you ever been to Israel? A: It has been my home since it's creation.
Q: What is the incidence of personal firearms ownership in Israel? A: (Shouting and slamming fist on podium) EVERYONE IS ARMED! NEVER AGAIN!
I spun around and addressed the entire crowd of 500+ Educators from all over the county: I said: Do you see the NEXUS? Do you understand the connection between owning guns and FREEDOM? If you do not now go back and tell this to your students, you not only condone the first HOLOCAUST, you invite the NEXT! None of them would meet my eyes. Not one. I sat. The Q&A continued. Later there was a coffee.
My peers shunned me and I was all alone. The survivor sought me out and we had a private talk. He wanted to know everything about me. My full name, school where I taught, what subjects, my background, my military history, the works.
Every once in awhile somebody else would approach him to chat, but he knew they were all gun haters and he literally SNARLED at them to chase them off. He also remarked that he thought I would be "in trouble" when I got back to my school. I told him that I was used to being chewed on by Generals, so I didn't sweat the school district. He laughed.
We also talked about his gun collection and enjoying shooting in Israel. Also, he spoke of arming teachers with Uzis to prevent terrorism. This was long before the rash of school shootings in this country and way long before the 9-11 attacks.
Sure enough, when I got back to my school, my principal was waiting for me and he gnawed on me for two hours straight. He said the Holocaust Museum had called to complain. He said I had been BANNED from ever going there again, with the schools. And I was. The ban remained in place for ten years. Then, eleven years out the school district called the school where I was then serving and they requested specifically I attend!
Seems that survivor had gone back to Israel and reported everything. Eleven years later, the Israelis took over running the seminars and I was requested to come and address the educators on the merits of RESISTANCE TO TYRANNY BY FORCE OF ARMS. I couldn't get in trouble with the District because it had been made clear to them that any retaliation visited on me would be an affront to the State of Israel and become an international incident. I did that for a few years (annually) and then I became a teacher of American Government instead of history and no longer went there. Sometimes I wonder if that transfer of subjects had a reason behind it, but that's okay because as a Government teacher I still have to cover the Constitution at length and that includes the Bill of Rights! The system has decided (I think) that they can't win with me and they can't get rid of me especially since I've been a Teacher of the Year at various schools where I've served, so they resign themselves to the fact that I'm not going to march in lockstep to their antifreedom agenda. They pretty much leave me alone these days. Especially since I'm creeping ever closer to retirement.
Please link me to the article you are talking about.
My wife is Jewish and likes Palin a LOT.
Can't blame it all on antisemitism though because we have the example of Charles Krauthammer, an otherwise nice guy, who has said things about her that suggests he hates and despises her ~ and all totally irrationally.
I could imagine someone could disagree with Charles on some basis other than antisemitic urges quite easily.
Part of the problem with this and other articles about the Jewish Democrat vote in this country is that the estimates of the numbers of Jews have plummeted from about 12 million when I was a kid to about 4 or 5 million today. Apparantly Jewish people who live outside the New York metro area simply don't claim to be Jewish anymore, or they've all become Holy Rollers (or something).
There are a gazillion articles about the phenomenon and I assure you I have no idea what the answer is ~ although I finally figured out why Cincinatti figures so prominantly in the Reform movement.
I subscribed to Commentary for many years. With the coming of the internet it was no longer necessary to do so. Even without hard returns in the text their typical article is easy to read ~ you can tell there are some bright minds behind the stories and they are worth reading a couple of times EVEN IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THE WRITERS ON EVERYTHING.
The net is going to kill this magazine (as a magazine) though, and this might well be the last time anyone here gets a shot at what magazine articles used to be like.
I understand what you are saying but this article was written by a Jennifer Rubin.
I think Krauthammers dislike of Sarah is a more elitist bent.
Maybe he considers her less “refined”, than what he would like in a candidate.
I wish I could explain the problem, but frankly I do not have a clue.
I have never lived in an anti-semitic or anti-christian mindset.
Frankly I don’t want to go there.
I only wish that someone, anyone would plainly state why they feel the need to make sweeping statements about a person without proof to support their conclusion.
She did dismiss the anti-semitism thing, although without a full knowledge of where the charge came from or what it was based on.
Which is another reason to catch up on Christian theology. Not everybody is into Legalistic religion ~ actually almost no Christians are ~ and only a very small number in some really obscure churches seek to accelerate the End of Times ~ BTW, Amenejade in Iran belongs to such a group, but it's Twelver stuff, not even Orthodox Islam, and certainly not Christian.
My own theory is simply that the density of Judaism outside the core area around New York is so light that normal statistical methods simply can't find them to find out what they think with the result that the narrow opinion of a minority of the whole community in New York is presented to everyone as "the opinion of Jews".
The Islamic whackjobs at CAIR are able to pass off their opinion as representative of Moslems as a whole as a consequence of the same density of distribution.
Still, you've met the true believer Leftwingtards who believe that at least HALF the voters in the country are Leftwingtards ~ yet, better analysis shows they are no more than maybe 12%.
Absolutely, that is exactly what I am trying to say in my non-expert way.
The people of the ilk of amadjihad are frieghtening precursor of the future.
The fact that he has a ruthless army at his fingertips. Plus his stated drive for nuclear supremacy is World threatening.
I have been thinking about what scenerio would have to exist for him to Nuke Israel. I can not think of one. Not with the Al aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
But then the old canard of Mosques supposedly being holy places has long since been proven a lie.
Frankly there is so much that is unexplainable going on in this chaos, that I find it hard to pinpoint the direction in which we are headed.
Please keep me in mind.
You obviously are an educator. Please ping me with your thoughts on this subject.
