McCain: Americans' won't work for as little as $50/hour picking lettuce (April 4, 2006)
AP via MSNBC ^ | April 4, 2006

Posted on 12/31/2009 10:06:18 PM PST by 4rcane

McCain responded by saying immigrants were taking jobs nobody else wanted. He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona. Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain’s job offer. “I’ll take it! one man shouted. McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. “You can’t do it, my friends. Some in the crowd said they didn’t appreciate McCain questioning their work ethic.

Something is seriously amiss here, either the AP or McCain or both.

Note to McCain - sometimes you're really just being a Moron when you think you're a Maverick.

Oooh, you're onto something here. We need to try some wordsmithing. How about "Mav-ron" or just "Moronic-Maverick"?

A maverick after all is a range animal, a "calf" that's too stupid to stick with the herd.

One the one hand Hayworth is not really in the race yet. If he were to go whole hog and really get into it,he still might have a shot. Even last month he was down by only two points--45/43--now he is way back.,p> ON the other hand it may be too late.

To take out an entrenched rino he should have started about a year ago.

“Is this for real? Unbelievable how out of touch Mccain is with working Americans. $50/hour is alot of money”

Oh, yes, it’s all too real. I’m stunned you hadn’t seen it before. Thousands of people sent letters to McCain, offering to take the job ‘none of us’ would do.

I like that show. The most amazing thing about it is, all those workers doing dirty jobs, are typically USA citizens.

Here in Texas we are up to our eyeballs in illegal aliens. They are probably about 1/6 of the entire population and the overwhelming majority in some places. For instance in Dallas there are no fields of lettuce, no vast expanses of cotton, corn, grapes, apples, peaches, etc. So the illegals that are here are doing what exactly?

They have completely flooded the construction industry. I used to be a licensed Journeyman commercial electrician… not any more. Can’t speak Spanish.

Nearly ALL of the fast food joints are staffed totally illegals with one “front voice” (English speaker) per shift. Now days that has been reduced to a sort of slurry pidgin-English as they no longer care about losing the few remaining actual American customers that might wander in.

Construction, restaurants, custodial, gas stations, tire stores, supermarkets, grocery stores, department stores etc., this place is flooded with the grinning little illegal and most of the new ones come here with the full knowledge that they need not ever speak a work of English.

And of course, according to Mr. McCain, no American Citizen would ever work in a restaurant or gas station, build a house or office building, stock the dairy section or PICK LETTUCE, not even for $50.00 an hour!

Yean right. I understand you now, little Johnny.

I used to pick fruit, bale hay and detassel corn for less than a dollar an hour.

For years I was a drifter and I did mostly the unpleasant jobs when I needed money, like defatting chicken carcasses, car washes, pots and pans, and dish washing in restaurants, construction laborer, and so on, all jobs that were normally done by local Americans. When the Mexicans started taking them over, they shut out the Americans by making sure that no locals, black or white were welcome.

As late as the 1990s when I went to small, all white towns in Wisconsin, I noticed that all of the work from landscaping to washing dishes, was done by the local whites. I also know that when the Mexican colonists take over those towns that people will say that those were jobs that "Americans won't do".

I agree $50 then is $75 now. These politicians are so out of touch from middle America. They have no clue. If everyone still remembers (I will) in 2010&2012 none of them will be in office.

Maybe because of the money in his wife's family this offer works better in McCain's house. Won't work in the Tent Cities going up across America though where he would be mobbed by people trying to sign up to work and "pick that lettuce".

Somehow everyone must have missed that help wanted add in the paper, unlimited labor wanted to pick lettuce at $50 per hour, please call and ask to speak to John McCain.

If we need labor we don’t need to get it by using illegals. Their are legal methods such as temporary worker programs.
McCain seems to be justifying an invasion of America as long as those invading are cheap laborers. This is a violation of his oath of office. When will he and those like him be removed from office?

“...feed ourselves...”
"Not really, probably not very well, and not for long."

That's a presumptuous statement. We'll see how things work out for effeminate free traitors. Bring it on. Let's see the anti-American economic and regulatory moves through.

I’ve run a small farm and know what it takes. Nothing “presumptuous” about it.
Things don’t just pop out of the ground. Not a lot of available land in the cities, for starters. A tomato plant in the window ain’t gonna cut it. Suburbanites will do better, but it takes time to grow things to maturity. People better start getting canning supplies. How many have wood burning stoves to cook on when the electricity fails? How much wood do they have and where are they going to get more? When propane is no longer available?
Think you can go out and live off of the fat of the land? People that live out there catch you hunting they’ll shoot your a$$.

Very presumptuous. May the corrupt propane rackets be shut down along with the food illegally grown by third world peasants. I stay quite warm while not needing propane. BTW, very few suburbanites would do well at all after an economic crash. And those very few will be men who have worked with their own hands in the trades.

Now I'll tell you a thing or two about myself, though you've been a little rude and presumptuous. I'm clean as a whistle, and through a little past experience in police work, have a grateful appreciation for the Public Integrity Section in the DOJ. It's good to see corrupt public officials and their controlling constituents go where they belong.

I also have quite a bit of technical and agricultural experience--probably more than you have of either. You could try to belittle my National Guard service, if you like, too. But at least I wasn't a comfortable REMF, and I've stayed true to my oaths for various kinds of service, unlike those who've taken various kinds of bribes and sold us out to foreign enemies.

Being inclined toward technical and agricultural work does not equate to criminality, but having problems with men who enjoy those activities while agreeing with foreign collusions against the citizens of the United States does indicate a facet of criminal thought.

Get with being an American. There's no law against families staying together, gardening and learning to do hobbies (wherever they live), and you can't force us for long to buy foreign products through traitors against our Nation's interests.

If the economy crashes, I look forward to smaller government and the depositions of many more rich crooks (along with the drug dealers that they front money for, their casinos, their prostitution rackets and their regulation rackets against small businesses).

Every time someone like you starts popping off in favor of rich, criminal, anti-American slavers, quite a few readers are probably tempted to drop dimes on some of them to send them to prison.

This is a response to both of your posts.
LOL! I’ve never read such arrogant drivel in two posts. You, sir, are very defensive and suffer from little man’s syndrome like no one I’ve ever seen.
Thanks for the laughs.
Please work on your reading comprehension skills. I know, you’re better at it than anyone on the planet, but give it a try anyway.
By the way, change your handle to “fertilizer”. That’ll cover the BS you are spouting, and what you are going to become if society goes down the drain.

It appears that you're inclined to fire flames at your Bravo buddies, Charlie (Charlie re. your MOS--not a reference to anyone's first name).

I said that we can feed ourselves. You started the arguments with your comment #65, "Not really, probably not very well, and not for long" and reiterated that with the hysteria in your comment #94. It's too bad that people who grow gardens and tend livestock bother you that much.

Get as hotheaded as you like, Charlie. I'll be gardening, tending livestock and making some useful things anyway. Doing just about anything is better than being a slave for effeminate, anti-American tyrants.

“It appears that you’re inclined to fire flames at your Bravo buddies, Charlie..”
Oh, my goodness! You start out with insults and squeal like a stuck pig when you draw fire. LOL!
“You started the arguments with your...”
Back in the 4th grade, I see. You really, really need some reading comprehension skills. Learn how to understand the difference between a statement applying to the general populace and one applying specifically to you.
“Get as hotheaded as you like, Charlie.” Hot headed? HAHAHA! I find you to be as funny as all get out. I appreciate the laughs you are giving me.
Say, if you haven’t bred yet, please get sterilized. We don’t need the gene pool getting any more shallow due to your contributions.
By the way, I wasn’t going to say anything about your military service, but seeing how you bring it up as often as John F. Kerry, I can’t resist. I’m guessing, due to your priggish, prissy attitude, that if you were with the combat engineers you worked in the orderly room. With your insufferable, know it all, latent homosexual personality I’m guessing that you’d of been a blanket party candidate on a routine basis. That is, had you been in a real unit and not an orderly room weenie.
Thanks for the entertainment, fertilizer. You have a nice day now, ya hear?

We already know that you’re afraid of old fashioned, working men and women breeding. Ted Turner and the rest of the liberal rich already said that for you.

How many parts have you personally cut? How many houses have you built? How many cars and trucks have you rebuilt? How much electrical work and plumbing have you done? What do you know about home energy systems? Gardening and storing food is easy for those who have little spaces to do it in. The bossy faction of survivalist kooks (”professionals,” all) say that a small family needs an acre. I grew and stored more than a family needs each year from a 75’x100’ garden for several years with no failures.

Those who’ve developed technical skills to success with their own hands will do fine, but I’m sure that they won’t be trading with the superior folks who’ve been stealing from them, cheating them and regulating against their attempts to start small businesses and build home projects for about 30 years.

People harvested produce for $4 per hour, and the spoiled rotten whined that they charged $30 per hour. Men did steel fab and machining for $7 per hour, and the spoiled and lazy whined that they charged $30. No one worth including in business for any possible ugly economic ride ahead of us believes the thieves who’ve spread those stories.

Thank goodness that our thieving older half of the Baby Boomer generation is starting to pass away. ...dopers, feminists, adulterers, frauds and thieves—libertines all, even in the Republican half. The old men from WWII and the Korean War were right, BTW. The older half of Baby Boomers even steal through senior citizens discounts on property taxes in at least a few counties. I know that’s wrong, even though I’m very near being old enough to join in on that racket. I don’t want it.

Let the defaults come and the revenues dry up.
