Times Square Shut Down Due To Suspicious Vehicle 42nd Street And Broadway Closed As NYPD Investigates Park White Van NEW YORK (CBS) ―
The NYPD has closed down part of Manhattan's Times Square in response to a report of a suspicious vehicle, CBS 2 HD has learned.
Police blocked off Broadway at 42nd Street just after 11 a.m. Wednesday to investigate a white 1992 Dodge van with tinted windows that has been parked at the location for two days.
The van has temporary plates and a tarp is covering the windows, police say.

They start corraling the tourists inside the police barricade at 4:00 in the afternoon. Those fools stand inside the parameters shoulder to shoulder until midnight. Can't even go to the bathroom.
Is he still in Hawaii?
“At what point do we raise the security threat to Code Magenta?”
As soon as the system works & the terrorists aren’t trying very hard.
My understanding is he left the 24th right after that hated healthcare thing went through the Senate, for ten days.
street vendors are all potential terrorists- couple tanks propane- gasoline, who knows how much explosive u can hide in the cart- and just recent arrest of guy from Co. who owned one? And worse yet the chicken! yuck
Yes- he’s due to stay there til the 4th.
Seems odd a van could sit there for two days unattended without the NYPD doing anything..
There is precious little on street parking near Times Square, and no place where you can leave a vehicle indefinitely. (Meters, and alternate side of the street parking.) I am surprised that it wasn't towed.
Sounds like O’Hareom a normal day
or even find a place to park............
Even stranger is the fact that cars haven't been allowed in Times Square since last Spring. Bloomberg made the heart of Times Square a pedestrian walkway. So yes - why was a van there for two days. Testing the waters?
The Marshall got the hell out of Dodge.
I wish they'd realize that having health care doesn't matter if you're murdered by terrorists. Maybe instead they should be focusing on providing terrorist insurance for us non-muzzies. Oh wait, that wouldn't be politically correct.
If it had been a Hummer, the NYT would have been all over it.
Did they ever find the person who bombed the recruiting station in Times Square in March of '08? Last thing I heard they were looking for a bicyclist caught on video.
sounds like the vehicular equivalent of cash ticket, no luggage
Does it have Allahu Akbar painted on the side? You know, in case the same geniuses at HS are handling this that ignored the Panty Bomber, THAT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD SIGN...
Seems even odder that he’s as *far away as possible* when New Year’s Eve hits.
Is he ~scared~ to be here with his “fellow countrymen”?
Obviously not. If that was the case the police would not have been allowed to investigate for fear of offending the chosen minority.
