ANDERSON A Pizza Hut delivery person shot a man who allegedly tried to rob the store Wednesday, according to police.
A police report said Spencer Simmons, 44, attempted to rob the Pizza Hut on Broadway Street at about 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The report said Simmons pointed a .25 Raven Arms semi-automatic handgun at the stores cashier and demanded money. The cashier loaded about $720 into a small bag.
Simmons wasnt aware that a delivery man, Michael Shaker, had heard the commotion and snuck to the back as well, the report said.
Seconds later, Simmons left the register area, and walked to within six to seven feet of his location, the report said.
According to the report, Shaker gave Simmons a verbal warning but Simmons lifted and swung his gun up towards Shaker. Shaker fired one round from his personal 9mm Kel-Tec, hitting Simmons in the back of his head, the report said.
Sgt. Bill Casey, a spokesman for the Anderson Police Department, said Simmons was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis but did not know the mans condition Thursday.
Charges have not been filed against Simmons, but he is in the custody of police at the hospital, Casey said.
Casey added that Shaker was licensed to carry a handgun.
Pizza Hut spokesman Chris Fuller said in an emailed statement that the company is cooperating with the police investigation.
The safety of our employees is one of our top priorities, Fuller said.
LOL....seriously though, he will lose his job (but gained his life)....and saved taxpayers mucho dinero.
I think they mean soon-to-be-former Pizza Hut employee.
By the way, remind me never to take a .25 ACP to a 9mm fight.
You gotta love a guy who doesnt waste ammo.
Charges have NOT been filed against the thug?? Did I read that right? Pizza Hut will quite probably fire the hero employee, hoping to intimidate other employees from keeping guns. Anyhow, a couple of gutsy, heroic employees and one thug down. A good day.
Yup. PH will fire this guy just like the last one.
Good shot! Much better than the cop at Ft. Hood.

About a year ago another PH delivery man shot and killed a hold up man. He was fired by PH. I expect PH to do the same in this case. That is why I will never set foot in a Pizza Hut establisment. It is unsafe to do so. And I have stock in YUM. I didn’t buy it, It was a spin off from PEP.
Not only will pH fire the guy,the perp will file a personal injury suit against Pizza Hut and collect $3M;He’s gonna get paid.
Not in Indiana.
Hmmm... 9mm to the back of the head. Criminal charges may be filed at the morgue once life support is unplugged. Save the paper work.
Pizza Hut is not my favorite brand- but too many businesses that have delivery services have fired employees in the past who took serious action when confronted with criminals.
Good on Pizza Hut if they continue to support this employee.
And where might this Anderson be?
If the thug is arrested at this point, the City of Anderson inherits the hospital costs. If he dies, the City pays nothing.
About 45 minutes northeast of Indianapolis. The area has declined significantly in the last decade.
Great story...thanks for sharing. So now if (when) they try to take our guns, will they say it’s because poor people have a right to free pizza?
I’m glad the PH employee had a gun. There was a big stink in Cincinnati several years ago when pizza delivery businesses wouldn’t deliver to certain neighborhoods because of robberies. Some black councilman called the practice racist.
