FBI: Man Flew Into NYC From BWI With Firecracker Passenger Taken Into Custody After Explosive Device Found Wedged Between Two Seats On Piedmont Airlines Flight Into LaGuardia NEW YORK (CBS) ―

A passenger who flew into LaGuardia Airport on Sunday night was questioned by FBI agents after allegedly boarding the flight with an explosive device in his possession, CBS 2 has learned.

Officials confirmed Monday that a crew member on board Piedmont Airlines flight 4126 was cleaning the plane after it landed in New York around 7:30 p.m. when he found a large firecracker-like device wedged between two seats. Port Authority officials contacted FBI agents, and the passenger from that seat location, identified as 67-year-old Thomas Ouelette, of Bonita Springs, Fla., was tracked down and taken into custody.

Ouelette was planning on taking a connecting flight to Fort Myers, Fla. from New York.

Authorities did not release details on the kind of device discovered other than saying it was a 4-inch-long, three-quarter-inch-wide explosive pyrotechnic.

I wonder if they checked it for fingerprints? Otherwise, how do they know this was the guy who put it there?

They should certainly check this out, but frankly I trust the FBI to do the right thing these days about as far as I could kick them.

Another thing to check. Was it possibly left there for someone to use later? Who was that seat reserved for flying out?

If we have to be strip searched before flying then the terrorists have already won.

wiki:

Traditionally, M-80s were made from a small red cardboard tube approximately 1½ inches (3.8 cm) long and 9/16–5/8 inches (1.4–1.6 cm) in diameter, with a Visco fuse coming out of the side, holding approximately 2½–3 grams of pyrotechnic flash powder; one source states that an M-80 has at least 3 grams of explosive.[3] For comparison, the Quarter stick contains 20 grams of explosive.

That’s no firecracker. Too long for an M-80. Sounds closer to what is known as a “quarter stick” (i.e., an M-80 steroids).

Looks like the system worked!

NOT!

FAIL

Since there is no timing device mentioned, and the thing was found after the plane was on the ground there is no reason to celebrate.

The name doesn't sound like a likely muslim or acolyte.

But waiting for further info.

Yep, Janet Incompitano deserves a B+ since the device was found. Not by Airport Security or those that do body searches on grandmothers flying from Minnesota to Florida to visit their family, but an airline cleaning guy finding it between the seats.

Everything is working just fine -- meanwhile the Zero family is sunning themselves in Hawaii and security with a ten mile perimeter.

They may even decide to do a cavity search to see if any firecrackers are stashed up the wazoo.

Pinging wazoo1031 to a post where she is mentioned .........

A day after saying the system worked, Napolitano backtracked, saying her words had been taken out of context.

“Our system did not work in this instance,” she said on Monday morning.

....airport security....

In Columbus, OH, and in other airports around the country, many security details, and baggage handling are done by Somali immigrants, working for Airport Contractors.

Great work Federal Employees!
I’m sure that the device couldn’t have been left by any of about
a hundred other terroristic types.

Oh, please don’t do a trace to see if someone from an Islamic Hell-Hole
flew in that seat in the last couple of days.

For some reason, they were also called “pineapples” when I was a kid. Made a heckuva bang and were for-real dangerous.

Strip searches.

Ever consider that all of these "malfunctions" might just be "accidentally-on-purpose" to build the case for having all passengers strip and put on paper jammies before being shackeled into their seats?

” Federal officials said they did not believe terrorism was involved, but that Ouelette already had two outstanding warrants in Florida for “unlawful flight.”

My wife had a lipstick confiscated by a hostile TSA agent.
The rest of us can’t bring more than 3 ounces of toothpaste and it has to be in a clear quart size bag..or else.
And yet somehow others are freely able to bring bombs
and other incendiary devices aboard.
The list of prohibited carry on items by the TSA is hilarious.
Box cutters, Ice Axes/Ice Picks, Sabers, Swords , Baseball Bats, Bows and Arrows,
Spear Guns, Firearms, Starter Pistols, Flares , Axes and Hatchets , Crowbars , Saws,
Hammers , Billy Clubs, Stun Guns, Black Jacks , Blasting Caps, Fireworks , Plastic Explosives , Gasoline , Turpentine,
Paint , Fire Extinguishers , Torches, Tear Gas.
And my two favorites- Dynamite and Cattle Prods.
