A smoke filled cabin with an out of control fire could be just as deadly as the plane actually going down, in terms of casualties.
All I know is that after the shoebomber screwed his bomb we had to start taking off our shoes to go through security at airports.
This time the bomb was in his underwear.
sigh
For your post no. 35:

(and the contents of the smoke, too.)
Ditto your post.
There is something ya don’t read on FR everyday........o)
While we are driving across the country to avoid flying.........this PC non-profiling mentality is not only raising our airline ticket prices, but destroying the airline industry slowly but surely.
It's a sheer gamble to shell out X amount of dollars for a non-refundable airline ticket and see that a half dozen or more fellow "passengers" are people you have personally profiled and now (at the gate) have absolutely no desire to share a flight with.
No one I know wants to fly anywhere anymore.
Welp, the best thing to do is to hang out near attractive members of the opposite sex as you go through airport security. :D
Yep, it’s disgusting — like the jihadis.
Perhaps a different thrust on this thread is in order.
We believe that the terrorist had a PETN bomb strapped to his nether regions and he had a non-metallic binary detonater configured to explode the PETN.
The Magnetometers that we currently use for screening in most airports will not likely detect this sort of a device. However, TSA has a device that will: the L3Com Pro-vision, a millimeter wave radar screening device. This system is in use in several airports on a trial basis. Some have complained because it can (horror of horrors), see beneath your clothes. That it can, but it doesn’t really show much beyond what you would see at the beach or your local supermarket. In the hands of a skilled operator, it would have almost certainly detected this device.
I have tested this device for a DoD agency and can attest that it is the smoothest thing since plain peanut butter. Its not coming into general use because of political correctness and likely attacks by the lefty legal crowd. But, its time to stop using the feel good security measures and start using systems like this together with an extensive profiling/interviewing scheme.
So we fly naked now, problem solved./s
>He was an engineering student.
Must learn “testing”.
Yeah, “student.” LOL
Nah. Gotta be 'metal fatigue'.
Center tank explosions are reserved as explanations for missile hits.
Both were sewn into the student’s underwear so they would be near his testicles and unlikely to be detected, he told agents....”

“Test...um...nuts roasting on a open fiiiiiiire”. Seriously, tho......I hope he suffers like HELL! I hope nurses withdraw the morphine.
Political correctness was devised to destroy capitalism and society’s freedoms. If we let it succeed, then so it shall.
Shall we assume terrorist chemical engineers were trained at the best US engineering schools?
Nope, that’s not it, either. Bush and Rove planned it and put it in motion in order to make zero look bad, even though he’s done a fine job of doing that all on his own.
London
This alleged attack on a U.S. airplane on Christmas Day shows that we must remain vigilant in the fight against terrorism at all times, Attorney General Eric Holder said. Had this alleged plot to destroy an airplane been successful, scores of innocent people would have been killed or injured. We will continue to investigate this matter vigorously, and we will use all measures available to our government to ensure that anyone responsible for this attempted attack is brought to justice.
Man, Eric, are you a real man of genius or what! Whatya want, a medal or a chest to pin it on???
“Abdulmutallab required medical treatment...”
Whats a good salve to put on burns???
Salt???
Japaleno juice???
Why not? We have educated many engineering students from there in our universities here in the US, including chemical engineers.
Sounds like someone got the mixture wrong or maybe failed to mix a binary properly.
That part could be attributed to faulty instructions, poorly transmitted instructions, or a terrorist footsoldier not paying attention to instructions.
Even more simply, the job has been done short of crashing that plane.
Increased security/airport hassles, more 'fear of flying', and other spinoffs will ensue, regardless.
I wonder if one of Obammy's pals is sending him a 'message' over some unfulfilled promise made off the media radar?
