Who is this “Marshall Law” you keep going on about, and what does he have to do with imposing military restrictions on the populace?
Or did you mean MARTIAL law, with mandatory curfews and soldiers in the streets?
If that is indeed the case, the hypo would have HAD to have been made of glass. Maybe the glass syringe busted in his pocket and he got burned by the acid.
>>”...hes risking more than just thermal burns...”
We keep thinking about how a rational person would do it. How to keep it controllable. We need to remember that, if he had been “successful” he (and everybody else on the plane) would be dead.
With that in mind, whoever designed this concoction probably gave no consideration to safety or stability, and thus didn’t consider that it might go thermal, and in that way, FAIL.

holy shite
I don't think he is going to care for his new accommodations.
If the explosive used it PETN, the amount needed to fill a condom is enough to literally blow a heavy wooden front door found in houses off its hinges. Good thing the the explosive device didn’t go off fully, or the explosion—especially in a pressurized fuselage—would have literally blown a fairly big hole from the window seat where the “perp” was sitting.
As soon as Maher's on he'll be trashing Americans...
I saw an account where the guy spent 20 minutes in the bathroom. When he came out he asked for a blanket which he used to hide his attempt to activate his device. It probably was in his rectum, condoms are commonly used by smugglers.
Thanks for the ping! Good video!
The last time I flew out of Den (2 yrs. ago) all passengers had to step into a booth. Air was blown over you, obviously ‘sniffing’ for explosives. After about 15 sec. it gave the ok.
I’ll bet that booth would have caught him.
Your speculation sounds like what was up on that plane fer’ sure.
A nitrates sniff, dog or machine, should still detect the powder, no?

We don't know if the designer is the same person who selected this would be bomber, or a different Predator target. But the selector apparently did give some consideration to competence in picking a trained mechanical engineer. Unless his degree was completely bought off by Daddy Warbucks, in which case thank heavens for nepotism, you'd expect someone who made it through his schooling be able to pull this off. As for the bomber I agree he wouldn't care about the possibility of thermal burns, but I thought some Freepers might enjoy an extra dose of Schadenfreude! And the last think the bomber would have expected is to get this far and live. That should be a big shock to his system and a great opportunity for our guys to break him down and roll up his connections. D*mn, what a difference a year makes.
I wonder if its possible to waterboard someone in an airplane rest room or galley? Cut the feed to black boxes, take it around a couple times. If Obama lets PC screw up this case, and the next case succeeds, the case after that just might present him with a fait accompli. Or at least an interesting direct to video movie (the only way it would ever get made.)

It looks like the precursor: Pentaerythritol (C5H12O4) has no nitrates until treated with Nitric acid (and maybe sulfuric acid).
I heard that he spent several minutes, maybe 20, in the head/latrine/can just before returning to his seat, covering himself with a blanket, and then trying to set off his "device".
Hope he blew off most of his taliwacker, and then burned the rest.
So the next one modifies their plan slightly. The solution isn’t keeping people in their seats for the last hour in involuntary confinement. The bozo shouldn’t have been on the plane to begin with. They had all the information they needed to know that.
They are more focused on those evil right wing conservatives.
Other reports have stated he spent several minutes in the bathroom right before setting off the device.
OMW! I did mean martial law. I feel so stupid.
I don't mind that the father seems to have gotten his wish and his son lived despite the warnings being ignored ... nor do I mind that the son may have qualified himself for a Darwin Award. I assume that once the family jewels have been properly roasted, they are no longer functional for reproduction.
