Obama plans for health care delay, new jobs bill (WH anticipates health care talks to slip into Feb)

Obama plans for health care delay, new jobs bill By: Mike Allen and Alexander Trowbridge December 23, 2009 09:25 AM EST

The White House privately anticipates health care talks to slip into February — past President Barack Obama’s first State of the Union address — and then plans to make a “very hard pivot” to a new jobs bill, according to senior administration officials.

Obama has been told that disputes over abortion and the tight schedule are highly likely to delay a final deal, a blow to the president who had hoped to trumpet a health care victory in his big speech to the nation. But he has also been told that House Democratic leaders seem inclined, at least for now, to largely accept the compromise worked out in the Senate, virtually assuring he will eventually get a deal.

Internally, White House aides are plunging into a 2010 plan calling for an early focus on creating jobs, especially in the energy sector, along with starting a conversation about deficit reduction measures, the administration officials said.

Both will be major themes for his first State of the Union speech, which will likely take place on Jan. 26 or Feb. 2. White House aides are in the early stages of planning for the national address, but Obama will not only trumpet what he has described as his “B-plus” performance in 2009 but also set the stage for the 2010 congressional campaigns.

Obama and Democrats seem in agreement that they want to minimize the number of tough votes moderates in their party must take in the aftermath of the health care debate.

Just went thru thread here..this isn’t about jobs.

I think it’s a stall and they got wind of something coming at them from the Republicans, or they’ve been advised to slow things down because THEY need the prep. time.

..I don’t know but this isn’t about jobs....anymore than healthcare is about health or the people. I really question what’s going on at this time..hummmm

I am hoping FR will post info on numbersusa.com to use their free faxes and letters to stop amnesty. Maybe fewer Mitt bashing ads. We get it about Mitt. numbersusa.com creates the letters and you can edit them to fax free. We can stop amnesty.

I don’t think it’s just the State of the Union, I think it got pretty tough for them in the end and he wants to give them some breathing room. Also gives them time to cheat and scheme in back rooms then throw the damn thing at us right before they pass it.

Which is why we all need to keep this debate in the news. We need to keep protesting, fighting to stop it. I know everyone’s discouraged, I have been too but I honestly think this is a sign that some of his minions aren’t too thrilled about having their whatevers served up on a platter.

I also think we need to get full page ads with short understandable points of what this bill will do to Americans. Even if we can’t run them in every city, they will make the news if it’s well done.

Keep fighting, it ain’t over til it’s over!

>My translation:

Some more rats left the sinking ship and they don’t have the 60 votes.<

I been praying to the good lord that someone finally realizes what they are doing and refuses to go along, closing out their 60 votes.

That’s all i want for Christmas and new year.
No Obamacare

>They’ll only need 51 or 50 w/Biden breaking the tie, when it comes to the final bill.<

Isn’t that for a tax bill and emergency funds?
They can pass it that way yes, but it only stands 5 years if I am thinking of the right procedure.

Is that correct???

anyone??

>I actually do believe Cap and Trade is dead.<

I don’t think so, too much being made from the EPA having authority to force mandates.
they will ram it down our throats regardless if that is what they want.

But on a bright note, the more he does the less people like him.
His political currency is almost as bankrupt as he is making the country now.
By 2011 he will be a lame duck before his election.

President Barack Obama’s plans to make a “very hard pivot” to a new jobs bill,

Since when is the Government of any kind (federal/state) required to provide employment of the masses?...better yet, tell me where in the US Constitution is "The Office of the Presidency" obligated by law to create jobs for the masses?

Which is why i don’t believe they intend to wait at all. The whole rush has been to get this junk passed early enough that they don’t have it in front of themselves once campaigning starts. They wish it to be behind them. If they wait, its a huge tactical mistake.

i don’t think an economy based on health care is any more sustainable than the union/pension/benefits one is.

i don’t understand how hey have a big problem over abortion but will get a deal anyway. Its akin to saying Israel has a big problem with some of its neighbors but they’ll all happily coexist in 6 months.

He will talk about good job with fair wages and good benefits. He always means union jobs. Its as though every non union job in the country is no good.

Exactly!

Nancy has lost her “way” and they are trying to stimulate the districts on the fence to keep/recapture their votes.

Here is the real reason for the delay. Obama needs a win for his states address. He wants it fresh so he will get applause for doing something. Go to 12:06.
