WASHINGTON (AFP) President Barack Obama on Monday touted a plan to cut back on wasteful spending on federal government contractors, a plan he said is on track to save 40 billion dollars per year by 2011.
"Between 2002 and 2008, the amount spent on government contracts more than doubled. The amount spent on no-bid, non-competitive contracts jumped by 129 percent. This is an inexcusable waste of money," Obama said.
Shortly after taking office in January, Obama set a goal for federal agencies to save up to 40 billion dollars per year in contracting costs by 2011.
Since then, "24 departments have identified more than 19 billion dollars in savings for this year alone," he said.

OUR PRESIDENT IS A F**KING LUNATIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We knew this would happen.
Cut contractors back. Add that to positions and contracts that haven’t been filled since he came into office.
Many things not getting done so employees are not being hired. Good, until you realize it things like Boarder Patrol and other DHS positions and contracts.
Just another side show.
They might as well shut down NASA too.
Here is where they gut Defense spending folks. Right on schedule. Blame the military for consuming too much. Jimmy Carter all over again. If you are in straight line DoD acquisition better start building your parachute.
Start with our money you are spending to get your worthless healthcare bill.
$300M to LA Unknown amt to NE
Unknown amt to many others. . . . .
It is also silly to target a method of purchasing by the Government. You need to look through the method to see what is being bought.
That is like looking at my budget and seeing that I paid for too many things with checks so I’m going to cut my check writing by 25%. Just silly.
Wow—this sounds......unprecedented!
But wait, there’s Hope.. maybe.. for some .. I seem me a sign nearby saying coming soon .. RecoverAmerica.unnngh money fixing your street cuz it is bumpier’n and sagging in more spots than Rosie Odonnell .. heck.. I hope they don’t fire them contractors too..
The Dems, as usual.. empty the clip and shoot both feet and claim to be innocent victims guilty only for trying to do something.
They act stupid but they know what they are doing.. buying votes from goats willing to swallow anything they are offered .. as long as it is FRee.
He will save $40 billion by 2011.
He will have spent something like $4 trillion by then.
I guess this does balance out... /s
This means more military cuts while our mafiosos rob us blind. Military cuts will mean more for the DC syndicate to steal.
Oh, I have no doubt that they know exactly what they are doing.
HALLIBURTON!
Cheney! Rove! Blame Bush!
There, I just condensed libspeak speech down to 5 words.
And, hey, who knows inexcusable wastes of money like Barack Hussein Obama?
This is his SPECIALTY!
That is a lie. That is pure BS. He is a liar. Obama is a liar. He is full of BS.
Say that with a straight face.
U.S. President Barack Obama (C) makes remarks on his meeting with Democratic Senators about health care legislation in the Roosevelt Room at the White House in Washington December 15, 2009. He’s saving or creating jobs. OH...wait....he’s actually cutting this time. The man is a born lier.
Nasa without contractors is just out and out welfare. I know that their plan is to do spacecraft by themselves but they can't, no way. They run up the costs and then when they get to CDR they call in the contractors. The culture is one of unaccountable slackers and incompetents. 10 % are competent, 90 % dead wood. I see it up close.
Definitely. The first thing he should do is reduce the Federal workforce (I use the term “work” loosely) by 20% - and that would be just a start.
