Senate health Care Debate - Live Thread
C-Span ^ | 12/19/09 | US Senate

Posted on 12/19/2009 4:34:45 AM PST by BCrago66

Right now, the Senate is voting on a procedural motion to table debate on the Defense bill - which Republicans are hoping to filibuster, in an effort to stall debate on the upcoming Health bill. Because Lieberman didn't show up today, the Republicans just need to stick together on this to prevail - without defections from Collins or Snowe.

“Indeed, we see what he is, the only thing they haggle over is the price.”

Nelson (et al) = Judas?

Still need 60 to pass the Senate prior to conference committee. After it comes out of conference, Reid can pull the nuclear option and only require 51 votes to pass—and he will.

Lott,Frist, and McConnell—didn’t even have two balls between the three of them. Now a moron like Reid will show leadership—and get the bill that will end America into reality for a closet Muslim Marxist President.

God, please help us in our hour of need. And may the Founding generation of Patriots forgive us.

I have a dream.

Effectively immediately, the Republicans use every opportunity to stand united against this calumny and remind the people it's a 100% DEMOCRAT, 100% OBAMA bill and that they will do everything in their power to reverse as much as possible of this mess once they gain some seats back in the next election.

Unfortunately, that'll never happen.

Well, there is THAT, and Madam has already said that she will not accept the senate bill.

That’s what infuriates me. Ben Nelson is a fool. He’s been had and he knows it. He’s been a govenor and a senator. He knows the inner working of sausage making.

He had the most golden of opportunities to forever be known as a stateman by killing this bill. But no, he’s going to for cloture with his damn party.

I have not been able to go back to the Catholic church here because the priest loves Obama more than I think he loves his faith.

Whatever comes back from conference requires 60 votes to cut off debate.

Therefore, there is at least one cloture vote remaining after Senate passage.

Now is not the time to complain or be bitter but instead understand the situation, mobilize our forces and move forward with a plan.

Absolutely. So far we're fighting from our phones, keyboards and some out there protesting. We aren't bleeding in the snow.

Fight.

Yep, this was a golden opportunity. AS I have said before, today vote against, tomorrow announce he is now a Republican! He would be a hero to 60% of the country and 65% of his Nebraska electorate.

On one hand Nelson has sold out. He got his Medicaid money which is all he wanted. The abortion “compromise” should be a big problem in the House. Federal money will be used to pay for abortion and Stupak and his dem allies shouldn't go along with this. Now, they might cave and support the Senate abortion language but we would be much worse off is Nelson had held out for Stupak’s language and then caved. Basically, this should still be a battle royale in the House. The left wants to fight over the public option some more, Moveon is going nuts. The Republicans are unified in opposition. It's certainly tough sledding for supporters of freedom but it's not over yet. We must keep fighting. the left is paying an incredible price and at the very least we must keep the heat on.

Unless Pelosi lets the House vote on it without going to conference, and it passes in the House.

My brother in law is an Obama voting/supporting, abortion and all, Catholic priest. I told my husband to never put me in a position where I am even in the same building with him ever again. Haven't spoken to him since the election.

I hear you.

You should have heard me at Thanksgiving. I'm usually pretty mannerly in political matters at the family table, but the past 11 months have seen decorum fly out the window.

When the Peace Corps relative said she was leaving for a 2-year Kenya gig I told her, "Good, bring back Obama's birth certificate while you're there, willya?" You should have seen the looks on everyone's faces. Believe me, she didn't DARE say a word in opposition.

I don’t understand HOW they can support Obama. I can understand the liberal social programs, them being on board with that but abortion should stop them cold.
I guess I don’t even want to get into his trying to explain his support. I still have the same level of anger/disgust towards him that I had election day, and while I don’t like feeling that way, I’ll live with it.

Isaiah 59:18 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.

Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Don’t throw in the towel justyet. Nelson has just said he will vote against it in confernce if there are changes made to the acoomadations he has won especially abortion.

The only place his vote makes any difference is where there are 60 required. He can vote no anywhere else and there are enough dems to cover for him.
