Senate health Care Debate - Live Thread
C-Span ^ | 12/19/09 | US Senate

Posted on 12/19/2009 4:34:45 AM PST by BCrago66

Right now, the Senate is voting on a procedural motion to table debate on the Defense bill - which Republicans are hoping to filibuster, in an effort to stall debate on the upcoming Health bill. Because Lieberman didn't show up today, the Republicans just need to stick together on this to prevail - without defections from Collins or Snowe.

From The Corner- reminding us how fast things can change in D.C. ...

Undercovered Story? [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

A close health-care watcher (and Hill vet) raises the possibility of an “intra party fight between reid and pelosi. There are two very big egos there and you have the natural friction there, too, between the House and Senate (which is real). There’s also lus the chance of liberals and moderates going at it. Our best chance to kill the bill may lie with those two.”

I’m sick and enraged. This whole ordeal has literally ruined Christmas. I hate them all. I told the priest last week, that it is impossible to remove the hatred from my heart that I hold for Obama and his party. ++++++++++++ +2

I am just afraid of what may come out of my mouth. He talked my Mother in law into switching her vote, which she deeply regrets. I don’t blame her, she is 86, frail, and adores her firstborn.

Its the way federalism works. Every state should be allowed to decide what happens in the insurance exchanges in its territory.

Under federalism there ought to be no federal role in health care.

Under federalism taxpayers in states that prohibit abortions should not be forced to subsidize abortions in states that allow it

This is not federalism, It's tyranny.

Don’t throw in the towel just yet. Nelson has just said he will vote against it in confernce

He'll sell out on that. Its not a matter of "if. Its a matter of "when".

I'd like to be wrong. But I'll believe Nelson's words when he backs them up with action.

Indeed, we see what he is, the only thing they haggle over is the price.

The best strategy of the Democrats right now is Ping-Pong, i.e., the House simply passes the identical bill, thus avoiding the need to go to conference. And any statements by Democrats regarding going to conference have to be taken with the understanding that the Democrats know that Ping-Pong is the best strategy. Talking about the upcoming conference may be a subterfuge causing Senators such as Webb, the Maine sisters, and a few others to vote for Senate bill to appear "reasonable," while still remaining open to voting against cloture on a final, post-conference bill. But then - Pong - the House votes for the identical bill, and the bill becomes law, Game Over.

After the 60 vote cloture, do the following votes need 60 or merely 51 to pass?

There are no words for a quisling SOB like this man, and for ALL the Democrats.

I disagree. Here are a few words that come to mind:

_____________, __________, _____, _____ ________, ________ ________.

Don’t throw in the towel justyet. Nelson has just said he will vote against it in confernce if there are changes made to the acoomadations he has won especially abortion. The left will want those things back. So it’s not over yet.

Yes it is.

Your football team is down 62-0 going into the fourth quarter. It's theoretically possible to score nine touchdowns in one quarter while holding the other team to only turnovers. But it's practically impossible. It won't happen.

The three-headed Reid-Pelosi-Obama Marxist serpent is poised to sink its fangs deep into the exposed calf of the Republic and inject a three-fold load of venom. And that's just this month. Nothing's going to stop it. Next month? Immigration "reform, " a.k.a, the permanent Democrat majority through imported third-world votes.

Oh yeah. The Republic is a dead man walking.

Need help from you freepers!

Can you all suggest some encouraging verses for a situation like this. My heart is breaking from the evil that leads this country. I know God is in control and He will triumph in the end, but today, I need some verses to hold onto. Thanks!

There was Christmas in American history when it looked dark and hopeless. Bandaged bleeding feet, short on rations, low morale and a blizzard. The commander of those forces saw an opportunity to turn the situation around.

While the other enemy forces were celebrating, the Americans took advantage of the darkness, intoxication of the enemy and the underestimation of the Colonials. They didn't turn back but moved forward and saw it through to victory.

Now is not the time to complain or be bitter but instead understand the situation, mobilize our forces and move forward with a plan.

Yes, he is up for re-election in 2012 but...his electioneering next year will be he voted AGAINST final passage (Reid will ensure it gives him cover because Reid needs only 51 votes on final). To that bunch of traitors you can add Landrieu and others who will be allowed to vote against so long as Reid gets his 51.
