Senate health Care Debate - Live Thread
C-Span ^ | 12/19/09 | US Senate

Posted on 12/19/2009 4:34:45 AM PST by BCrago66

Right now, the Senate is voting on a procedural motion to table debate on the Defense bill - which Republicans are hoping to filibuster, in an effort to stall debate on the upcoming Health bill. Because Lieberman didn't show up today, the Republicans just need to stick together on this to prevail - without defections from Collins or Snowe.

Congress: Reduced to nothing more than a target-rich environment.

I agree ... they will get the public option and abortion restrictions lifted at a later date.

Nelson was bought off, period. He got some face-saving abortion language in the amendentment, which doesn’t mean squat.

Its the way federalism works. Every state should be allowed to decide what happens in the insurance exchanges in its territory.

My brother in law is an Obama voting/supporting, abortion and all, Catholic priest. I told my husband to never put me in a position where I am even in the same building with him ever again. Haven't spoken to him since the election.
I suppose that isn't very Christian of me, but it is what it is. He disgusts me to the core.

Standing there all alone....which is where he’d better be the morning after the next election.

Hi truthkeeper, Same here. I’ve been watching for a little over 2 hours. This group of democrats have shown they don’t give a damn about our Constitution they swore to uphold. This is nothing short of tyranny.

Ramming through legislation of this magnitude without a written bill for all Americans to read and understand, and doing it during CHRISTMAS is so beyond the pale, I am at a loss for words.

Forget robust debate. Democrats can’t permit that! Just vote for the damn thing because Obama has to have it or his presidency will suffer. My God, I am speechless.

This guy is a real slick piece of work...on tv live now explaining his decision.

After talking about the "magnificent leadership" of speaker Reid, he's now saying if it comes back from conference committee substantially different, he's voting against.

And this time he really, really means it!

They'll swallow them because that's the only way to grease passage through Congress. They're willing to take 90% now and get the rest later.

But Pelosi and Co. can still put lots of new cr*p in it, including new pork. In fact, the concessions to the Nelsons (both of them) and Landreiu, and other senate special favors we have not noticed yet will probably "inspire" them to add more in conference. As long as they don't take out the special money for certain, IMO they can steal more taxpayer money and it will still pass the senate after it comes out of conference.

Don’t throw in the towel justyet. Nelson has just said he will vote against it in confernce if there are changes made to the acoomadations he has won especially abortion. The left will want those things back. So it’s not over yet.

I’m listening to the phony live on Fox now. Sorry, but it’s hard to follow all the words coming out of both sides of his mouth.

As a “Catholic” i am ashamed by some “catholics” including some priests and bishops.

Many Evangelicals are way smarter!

I don’t think your stance is not christian but maybe you could make your point if you talked to him

It was sickening listening to him. “...I know there are those who disagree...we wouldn’t do this if we thought it would harm the American people...both the far left and far right have not behaved well...blah..blah...”...

From what I posted on another thread, what Ben “Traitor” Nelson said:

Now justifying his position, about selling abortion under the bus, knowing full well they will be stripped out in conference.

Now kissing Reid’s ass as leader.

Believes this legislation will stand the test of time and be a milestone of the 21st Century.

Says lives of millions be improved and saved thanks to Reid’s leadership.

Now telling everyone to go jump in a lake that doesn’t agree.

Says news and extremists on both sides falsely claiming that this legislation will harm Americans.

Says if there are MATERIAL changes in conference, he reserves the right to vote against the reworked bill. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

There are no words for a quisling SOB like this man, and for ALL the Democrats.

We owe the Founding Fathers a profound apology for allowing this group of leaders in DC to lead the America they sacrificed everything to found.

Are you kidding? He'll never vote against it. It was all just a shell game to get a big payoff.

He's a rat and a liar. 'Nuff said.

This particular priest is from Ireland, but he’s been here for thirty years. He keeps his politics close to the vest, but I suspect he’s not all that fond of Obama and the pro-abortion democrat party. He told me to trust in God and to count blessings etc.

Nelson has just said he will vote against it in confernce if there are changes...

Parse the sentence. It was VERY carefully made. His exact words were: "...if there are MATERIAL changes made". What is his definition of "material"?

I’m sick and enraged. This whole ordeal has literally ruined Christmas. I hate them all. I told the priest last week, that it is impossible to remove the hatred from my heart that I hold for Obama and his party.

+1

My exact reaction when I heard him say that. This schmuck has no credibility whatsoever.

Live on Fox now: "My support is conditional." Yeah, it depends upon the purchase price!
