WASHINGTON (AP) - The number of newly laid off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week as the recovery of the nation's battered labor market proceeds in fits and starts.
The Labor Department said Thursday that the number of new jobless claims rose to 480,000 last week, up 7,000 from the previous week. That was a worse performance than the decline to 465,000 that economists had expected.

Then you change the laws and regulations so that only your gub'mint made put-put golf carts can meet the standards and you force people to (1) buy one, (2) use public transportation or (3) walk.
To paraphrase Henry Ford: You can have any color car that you want as long as we say it's "green".

Hearing today about H. Clinton promising 100 billion dollars to China if they sign on to the Nopenhagen accords, I couldn’t help recalling the immortal John Malkovich line from the movie Rounders, “I peeey you viss your own MONEY!”
And that makes me think of the more recent immortal movie line by Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood “I drink your milkshake!”

No. A new claim can’t be an extended claim.

Remember, the more unemployed people that run out of benefits, the more constituents that “need” the government. The left is trying despirately to create a large pool of “needy” people because they know that “needy” people vote democRAT.

Exactly what I am talking about. Think about this for a minute and imagine the effect of going Galt. Pass the Rangel Rule = no fines or fees for underpaying or late taxes. Everyone that produces... FReepers, Tea Partyers, etc. pile on the unemployment roles which are now set at two years and backed Federally. Then only pay $5.00 income taxes and claim the Rangel Rule for the next two years. What is the result?

Yep that is what they are counting on. The conservative producers will not humiliate themselves by asking for help from the Govt., but maybe that is exactly what we need to do to throw the system completely out of whack. Instead of a slow and painful slide toward socialism while the left gains more and more power...everyone runs to the “left side of the boat” and capsizes it immediately demonstrating for all that the Left’s utopia is a ruse. It doesn't work unless 50% of the citizenry works and gives to the other 50%. Once capsized, “they” all get the boot, and we get back to rebuilding the Republic. Basically, we pull an Alinski on them.

Overload the system and encourage my wife and anyone else to submit for umemployment. My job is secure and we could get by fine without hers. If everyone piles on, unemployment spikes economy grinds to a halt even more showing the Dems to be even more incompetent. Its like fighting cancer with chemo...just thinking out load. The Dems have plans of their own to tweak the official unemployment numbers. We all know they are going to try to time the Porkulus money to "create" temporary jobs before the election. In addition, they are likely to allow unemployment benefits to expire so that deadbeats will get some kind of a job around Nov, 2010. Of course, that assumes that by that time the economy is not such a mess that there will be no jobs at all.

The conservative producers will not humiliate themselves by asking for help from the Govt., I've spent several hours convincing laid-off friends to apply for unemployment benefits. They think it's welfare, I tell them it's a stipend while you look for work. They understand that looking for a new job is a full time job in itself, especially in this market.

"...Remember, the more unemployed people that run out of benefits, the more constituents that need the government. The left is trying despirately to create a large pool of needy people because they know that needy people vote democRAT..."meyer, what you are referring to is the "Cloward Piven Strategy.
Given that Alinsky is Obama's hero and idol (since he doesn't have God) and this strategy is directly derived from Alinsky's work, this would be no surprise.
I have been one of those people from day one who believe that the whole crisis in the latter half of 2008 was deliberately brought to a head for political purposes.
