Nelson Aide: Offutt Claim False (Also Denies Obama "Bribe") (Update at #8)
Omaha World-Herald ^ | Tuesday, December 15, 2009 | Joseph Morton

Posted on 12/15/2009 5:11:54 PM PST by kristinn

As the Senate health care debate enters crunch time, the pressure from all sides continued to grow today, with Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., right in the middle.

His spokesman quickly dismissed a report by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin that Nelson was even being threatened with “closure of an air force base,” presumably Offutt Air Force Base, which is south of Omaha and home of U.S. Strategic Command. Malkin also said Nelson has been promised a “bribe bigger than Sen. Landrieu's.”

That's a reference to Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu, a Democrat and one of the last holdouts on the vote to begin the health care debate. The legislation includes a provision to increase Louisiana's Medicaid funds that Landrieu says is worth $300 million.

Nelson spokesman Jake Thompson said both of Malkin's claims about Nelson are false.

“The rumor is not true,” Thompson said. “This misinformation is coming from inside-the-Beltway partisans who only want to derail health care reform.”

Not according to the global warming rich nutcases. It won’t be called a treaty it will be called an agreement so they will get rich and powerful and no one will dare say anything because the false messiah is immune.

What is absolutely crazy is that not only will nearly every one of the 60 votes be bought and paid for (I’d guess that Al Franken is too naive to figure out how to get a decent bribe but you never know), but the final bill will be absolutely meaningless. It will be $1 trillion of nothingness. It will help nobody. It will accomplish nothing. Neither rich nor poor will benefit. The American people will realize that these are the biggest bunch of do nothing, self-serving jackasses since the Truman era. They talk a lot. They spend a lot of money. And they accomplish noting. And THAT is what is going to result in a “throw the bums out” election in 2010.

I will give the GOP credit for holding together so well since Obama’s inauguration. For the most part they have managed, in both the House and Senate, to keep the GOP in line voting against the Dems.

With that said, it’s a little too late and I want people in office who I can depend on. Throw em out and get people in whose words we can take to the bank and not hand what is in the bank to the Gov.

Obama does not give a rats ass about the security of this country if it gets in the way of his supposed domestic agenda. I'm utterly convinced that he would gladly put this country in harms way as payback for a no vote on socialized meds. He has invested too much political capital to do otherwise. If this fails, he fails, and in his mind failure is not an option despite any risk.

As a side note, I particularly liked your description of Rahm. Emanuel really is Owebie’s pet rat.

The American People don’t own any representatives....Do we ?

I think you hit on something here. We could ask every American who opposes health care legislation to send a dollar to a specified Senator who is on the fence. Heck, I'll send a lot more than that to buy a "NO" vote!

You give credit where none is due...the Tea Party Patriots and other American conservative groups are forcing the GOP to do what is needed, if they do, they know they have half a chance of remaining in office.

Right now most of them know their sorry butts will be looking for a new job next year. Hell, yesterday 'ole Mike Steel of the RNC was on Fox, sucking up to the Conservative/Patriot movement, saying that the TEA Party "people" are most welcome in the GOP, which he called America's "Conservative" answer to the Dems... gimme a frigging break!

I know this may sound naive, but isn't there a law against senators and representatives being "bribed" for their vote?

That was fast. A few minutes behind closed doors and a US Senator is bought and paid for. Corruption breeds corruption. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Deal still on. Republicans will let threat and bribe slide with little or no comment. MSM will not cover story of threat and bribe. The end.

And 99.9% of voting America will be none the wiser.

Well said. McCain is right in his assessment that money corrupts politics. But he was wrong in his assessment that it’s the campaign donations that are the problem. No, the source of the corruption is the gargantuan pool of tax revenues that pour into D.C. which are used as personal slush funds for those who happen to be in control at the time to bribe other politicians and constituents. Joe and Jane 6Pack’s hard earned dollars are funding the cesspool that is D.C. Enough is enough. This has to stop.
