The group's founder, Andy Schlafly, is the son of Phyllis Schlafly. The apple has not fallen far from the tree. These are the same John Birchers and reactionary right-wingers of yore. Conservapedia is just a new offshoot of that poisonous tree, and Schlafly is the fruit of fringe insanity. The poor kid was raised to believe this gorp.

Ping for later

You post a ridiculous letter to the editor from a self avowed liberal. What is your purpose other than just being stupid?

“The poor kid was raised to believe this gorp.”

What the hell is “gorp”?

“How can you be ‘stupid’ and ‘informed?’”

Read carefully. Those two words were part of different clauses, and “informed” was here used as a verb.

Read carefully.

Thanks. You're right. The word "the" following got lost in the gibberish of overblown rhetoric. The article is a stinker. Despite that, coming up with a "conservative" translation is a dumb idea.

I’m sure the aim is to come up with a more accurate translation, not a conservative one. If it is, then it’s a waste of time.

Trolls have modernized and are no longer feared quite so much. They no longer demand a goat or other animal as payment for crossing a bridge but now accept money as a substitute with which they then enter the marketplace to purchase goats that they are able to preinspect for suitability. That is what is behind the sign you come to on the highway approach to a big bridge- Stop, Pay Troll.

I read somewhere and my pastor confirmed that they are rewriting the NIV to be less gender specific. I’m not sure if that is the NIV Study Bible but I think so.

Good Ole Rasins and Peanuts. The original trail mix.

the president was born in Kenya. How do you think that happened?

Apparently the author was not the beneficiary of SexEd in school and didn't take a biology class. His parents probably explained his birth as a benefit from the government- he came with the tax refund.

Think about it. “Conservative” means accurate. One conserves the original meaning or wording instead of “interpreting” it to conform with modern sensibilities.

But what I want to know is, given their long record of tinfoil-hat bizzarro fearmongering, how do these wackaloons and hoopleheads still merit the fair-handed attention of "liberal" media?

the above is a good example of what anti-reason, emotionalistic irrationality sounds like

“Good Ole Rasins and Peanuts. The original trail mix.”

Why does this guy use it as a synonym for “crap”?

... A majority of Republicans today actually believe the president was born in Kenya.

Maybe because the 2004 Obama Senate campaign and his previous Illinois campaigns used the fact of his Kenyan-born history as a campaign selling point.

Gorp: a mixture of nuts, raisins, dried fruits, seeds, or the like eaten as a high-energy snack, as by hikers and climbers.

I read somewhere and my pastor confirmed that they are rewriting the NIV to be less gender specific.

They are late to the party. A friend of mine gave me "The Inclusive New Testament" published in 1996 by a group called "Priests for Equality." Based largely by a lectionary created by "Dignity, San Francisco" (homo group). The gift was a gag. The book, however, is real.

SAMPLE

1 Cor 6:16

Douay: "Or know you not, that he who is joined to a harlot, is made one body?" For they shall be, saith he, two in one flesh.

Inclusive NT: "Don't you know that when you sleep with someone, you're sleeping with all of their partners as well? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."

I did some snooping and the “TNIV” came out in 2005. I guess there was a lot of howling as they are discontinuing it. The new translation will be out in 2011 but they aren’t saying if it will be like the TNIV or more like the original.
