Houston, Texas has become the largest city in the United States to elect an openly gay mayor after City Controller Annise Parker was declared the winner of a runoff election tonight. Social conservatives fought her election, funding a campaign aimed at turning out likeminded voters to support her opponent, former city attorney Gene Locke. But Parker's endorsements from labor, police, women's, gay rights and other groups were echoed by the Houston Chronicle, the area's major daily newspaper, and her campaign ran a superior get-out-the-vote effort.

What the hell happened to Texas? This tells me how really effed this country is.
Well you see, in this country we live by our Constitution and like it or not some of your fellow Houstonians may be black or Hispanic. And now, they even let them vote.
And your 60,000 residents that identify themselves as gay or lesbian only represent 2.5% of the population.
Exactly.
However, I find it quite amusing that Houston elected the the slightly more Conservative candidate as mayor and people here are having a fit due to Parker's sexuality.
Don’t expect much out of Joel Osteen - he is too busy with the “Name-It, Claim-It” Prosperity gospel to worry about something as “insignificant” as sin... I have NEVER heard him “preach” (if you can call rambling on about feel-good promises of wealth, health, and good times if you just “believe”, often without any scripture at all, preaching...) about the danger of sin. The condemning reality of sin. The horrible price of sin.
But if you smile big enough, and REALLY believe that God will bless you - then you will be blessed....
Ain’t that good enough?
Now I have to go puke...
That was almost a coffee spew and I did not realize who posted that until I previewed my original post - had to start over.
I live outside the city limits so I didn’t have a vote in the Mayoral election, but I can honestly say I never once saw anything that mentioned her being gay. Maybe inside the city limits it was an issue, but I laughed when the media suddenly said “the first openly gay Mayor” - openly? I did hear that about a week before this runoff the black guy running “leaked” that she was gay..... but after the fact the media wants it to appear she was flaunting her sexuality. lol
I have to agree with you about Osteen. At first his message seems full of hope - but after awhile you realize it is the same sermon, over and over again. Smile, be happy, God will bless you if you are happy - He tells you the end result but not how to get there. It’s sort of like the liberal crap spewed at school children: you can achieve anything (but they don’t give them the tools to get there)
