The Holy Ghost is manifested to men on the earth both as the power of the Holy Ghost and as the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The power can come upon one before baptism, and is the convincing witness that the gospel is true. It gives one a testimony of Jesus Christ and of his work and the work of his servants upon the earth.
The gift can come only after proper and authorized baptism, and is conferred by the laying on of hands, as in Acts 8: 12-25 and Moroni 2: 1-3.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is the right to have, whenever one is worthy, the companionship of the Holy Ghost.
More powerful than that which is available before baptism, it acts as a cleansing agent to purify a person and sanctify him from all sin. Thus it is often spoken of as “fire” (Matt. 3: 11; 2 Ne. 31: 17; D&C 19: 31).

Such a thorough explanation of the LDS teaching about the Holy Ghost; yet we've not gotten even a tiny bit of knowledge about what JS learned to be UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANism...

Yes, I understand that. But that doesn’t change 1) that you still have no way of knowing that it WAS the Holy Ghost, and 2) that an “unworthy” LDS person “loses” the “gift”, which makes God and indian giver.
The only time I heard that the HG “stopped by for a visit” was the “burning in the bosom” talked about in Moroni’s promise. A “promise” that is based on a circular logic and therefore false.
If you pray about the BOM, and don’t get a “burning in the bosom, the there MUST be something wrong with you, either you didn’t pray sincerely, or you didn’t have “real” faith in Christ. And the Mishies keep telling you exactly what you will feel. So a person, who doesn’t get the “burning”, will keep praying until they feel what they are supposed to feel.
