Not in Sacrament meetings. One of the things the LDS church prides itself on is it’s “McDonalds” style worship. That no matter which ward you attend (even on vacation), it is going to be the same or very similar (subject of talks will vary but that is about it).
Part of that is the strict use of the LDS hymnal. I still have mine BTW.
The other side is amazing grace would not be sung, because it goes against LDS teachings.
“Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me
Newton calls himself a “wretch”, and we are back to the “filthy rags” arguement. The word wretch also referrs to the doctrine of “original sin” or “total depravity”, both of which is contrary to LDS doctrine that we are BORN children of God. Also he uses “saved” in the past tense, which the LDS do not. The LDS never point to a moment they were “saved”, it is always a progression.
The second verse also goes against LDS doctrine:
“Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved, how precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed”
Newton is describing a “Born Again experience”, the realization that he was a sinner in need of a Savior (he was a Slave trader and cried out to God during a terrible storm at sea, iirc) and that the Grace of Jesus Christ appeared when he believed.
The LDS view of grace is totally different. Their definition of “born again” is baptism into the LDS church, not the “Jesus experience” that Newton is describing.
Speaking oif teachings...
What the 'teaching' from SLC Headquarters that explains what Joseph Smith learned to be UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANism?
I can get NO MORMONs to touch this subject!

Thanks for posting that. I never knew why the lds would not sing what is considered an “essential” christian hymn. Now I know.
